American-born Taliban soldier John Walker Lindh has asked President Bush again to reduce his 20-year prison sentence by an unspecified amount, Lindh's attorney said Tuesday.
Lindh, now in his early 20s, wrote a first-person account to the Justice Department's pardon attorneys arguing why he believes Bush should reduce his sentence. Lindh's attorney said the document could not be publicly released under U.S. government restrictions intended to prevent Lindh from disclosing national secrets.
Lindh, a native of Marin County, Calif., who is now imprisoned in southern California, was captured in Afghanistan weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. He pleaded guilty in U.S. civilian court to supplying services to the Taliban government and carrying explosives for them, but the government dismissed terrorism-related charges against Lindh.
"As passions have cooled, it became clearer to people that John was a young man ... who was in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Lindh's attorney, James Brosnahan of San Francisco. "Hopefully, this president or some future president will reduce his sentence."
Brosnahan filed a similar request in September 2004; then-Attorney General John Ashcroft rejected the idea of lessening Lindh's sentence, saying the outcome to Lindh's guilty plea was fair.

If I were in charge, I'd increase his sentence to 50 years just for his asking to reduce it to 20, but that's just me.....
He'll be out in two years, maybe less.
This goon aught to feel thankfull to the moon rock. All he has to do is sit around his cell and read his book of the goons. What the hell more does he want? If he was released then he would have to go out in the world again, instead of hiding in some shithole in Afghanistan, and be faced by Jews and Christians walking the streets. He is better off growing a beard down to his toes and just swaying away side to side reading his goon book.

I'd reduce his sentence to two weeks if he would agree to take a lethal injection at the end of it.
John Michael Spann wasn't as fortunate.
You've got to suffer to be a revolutionary. It's in all the literature, which maybe now he'll have time to read, yes?
I think he's just getting too 'popular' in prison.
If Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi aren't in jail, why should Lindh?
Which is precisely why he is going to become an old man in the right place for a long time.
Just send it to the New York Times; they'll put it on the front page.

Good Grief...well NOW HE IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE..cry me a river!
I like your thinking. :)
Johnny should hope for you to be in charge because, if I was in charge he would be riding a horse to the nearest tree.

This is Federal. You don't get sentenced to 20 years and do 2. You get sentenced to 20 years and do 20.
I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of martyrdom.

Actually, I wish they would publish it in full! I would love to read what Johnny Jihad has to say for himself!
Or bringing a rope to his own lynching.
