BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- A Hezbollah militant sentenced to life in Germany for murdering a U.S. Navy diver during the 1985 hijacking of a U.S. jetliner has been freed, officials said.

The German government denied on Tuesday the release was related to the freeing of a German hostage in Iraq.

Mohammed Ali Hamadi was released Thursday and allowed to return to his native Lebanon on the next day, after qualifying for parole after 19 years in prison, said Ulrich Hermanski, spokesman for the North Rhine Wesphalia state justice ministry.

"There was no special treatment," Hermanski said in a telephone interview.

Sure it wasn't. The German betrayal was purely coincidental. And the Democrats want us to follow Europe's courage in the War On Terror. More like run up the white flag is more like it. My condolences to Robert Dean Stetham's family on his killer escaping justice thanks to a combination of European anti-Americanism and cowardliness.

They need to start finding these SOB's dead shortly after being released. EVERYONE needs to know that those that terrorize or harm Americans will not survive. We do not want to be perceived as a paper tiger, but we act that way. We act like paper kitties.

If this is at all realted to the releasing of a German hostage, it is a cowardly act deserving of the contempt of all Americans.

Guys, calm down. This is what Germany understands as Justice. Killers are usually released after 15-18 years imprisonment, so there´s really not much behind the story other than that the victim was an American. The German government had no influence on this, nor was the release of the German hostage in Iraq an issue here.

Hijacked by Hezbollah thugs and redirected to Beriut. The Islamic jihadis searched the plane for Jewish passengers and US military servicemen. They found five US Navy Divers and one Army Reserve Major. All military men were savagely beaten and tortured.

One diver, Robert D. Stethem was chosen to be executed. The Hezbollah chief put his pistol up against the diver's temple, fired one bullet and dumped Stethem's body on the tarmac.

Stethem was murdered because he was an American Sailor. His memory lives on as the Navy Commissioned the USS Stethem - one of the most formidable ships in the world.

The problem is that many of us have bitter memories of the Munich terrorists being released after a hijacking, mere months after they butchered the Israeli athletes. The precedent is there, so the incident does arouse suspicion.

Well, if this had nothing to do with the release of the German hostage, that is good, but releasing a terrorist murderer at all is still morally distasteful. He might head back to Lebanon to a hero's welcome from all his terrorist friends. Maybe he will engage in terrorist operations again. Who knows?

Yet another reason for capital punishment. You can't use them as a prisoner exchange.

"...The U.S. Navy has named one of its ships after Stethem, who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery."

Now we should send The USS Stetham over for a surgical strike on the murderer's hometown...

Of course it was related to the release of the German hostage in Iraq.
