NBC is promoting the network's mid-season replacement series "The Book of Daniel" with language that implies it is a serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith. The main character is Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her mid-day martinis.
Webster regularly sees and talks with a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus. The Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter.
At the office, his lesbian secretary is sleeping with his sister-in-law.
Network hype and the mainstream media call it "edgy," "challenging" and "courageous." The hour-long limited drama series will debut January 6 with back-to-back episodes and will air on Friday nights. The writer for the series is a practicing homosexual.
The homosexual son will be network prime-time's only regular male homosexual character in a drama series.
Those at NBC responsible for this program consider it a good, religiously oriented show typical of Christian families.

..."edgy," "challenging" and "courageous."Edgy in that it puts decent people on edge to even glipse a few seconds of the assault on religion. Challenging in that it's difficult to present a "family" show that's supposed to be religious while written by a raging homosexual. Of course the priest character is an alcoholic. Courageous because only Christian haters would put such an embarrassing piece of sophomoric degredation on network television and not expect brickbats to be hurled at their perverted faces.

Can you imagine a series like this about Jews or Muslims...

Politically correct stock characters. Can't Hollywood come up with something original? I expect this one to tank in the ratings.

Snooooooze.
Ratings will stink, it will be gone, and the smut-peddlers can feel superior to the ordinary schlubs who don't want to watch their crud.

...courageous...That's enough by itself to tell you that the series is utterly defamatory of Christians. It's "courageous" to dump on non-violent church-going types, just like it's "courageous" to say super-nice things about mass-murdering psychopaths.

Shows that try so very hard to be edgy usually are too ridiculous and strain credibility to the point where they're just not interesting. This one sounds pathetic.
To: FerdieMurphy
Just ignore the show. Remember Ellen's coming out show? The huge protest of the show boosted her ratings higher than any other episode and into the #1 slot. I'm afraid a lot of groups will start publicly boycotting it and it will just draw more attention to the show, keeping it on the air.
Sometime it is best to let something die a slow death from isolation than feed it the attention it wants.
There is no such thing as bad publicity

I don't understand the issue, I thought that all families were filled with dysfunctional drunks, druggies, sluts, pimps and gays. That is what made me think that my family was so odd since we do not have any of these.

I was watching the Bells of St. Mary the other day. No homos or drug dealers or adulterers in that movie. In fact, I would call that "edgy", because it's not loaded up with PC stereotypes.

Talk about trying to cram every crappy "edgy" stereotype into one program! This is more an insult to decent storytelling than it is an assault on Christianity or Christian virtues. It's as if a committee of hack writers got together an assembled the most unrealistic group of characters ever just to "ensure" dramatic tension in an otherwise yawn-inducing premise.
