A NATURAL EXPERIMENT [Iain Murray] If it's true that more women are having "unwanted babies," then that provides an interesting natural experiment to test Steven Levitt's theory that, all other things being equal, more abortions means less crime. Keep an eye on those crime statistics in 12-15 years from now. Posted at 04:34 PM

DNC: BUSH IS LYING ABOUT BRIEFING CONGRESS [Byron York]

The Democratic National Committee has just released a statement which appears to claim that the president is lying when he says the administration briefed members of Congress on the NSA spying program:

With his credibility in tatters, President Bush may have fielded questions, but he failed to explain why he may have ignored both federal law and the Constitution in ordering the NSA to spy on Americans. This disturbing abuse of power has become a disturbing hallmark of the Bush administration over the past five years. The President now seems to be hiding behind a false claim that he briefed members of Congress. In the spirit of the President's newfound candor, we call upon him to correct the record, explain why members of Congress were left in the dark and support an investigation into this secret spying program...

That's VERY interesting. Incredible that the supposed lawmakers are so totally oblivious of the law.

The DNC is suffering from projection. They would tell a lie when the truth would do better.

LOL, not so incredible at all.

I'm glad to see the POTUS right in their faces on this one.

... and they figure the rest must be like them ...

That is their weakest point to be exploited.

I see the major exception to the, usually reliable, projection rule to be their jealousy when when confronted by a circumstance they didn't anticipate or feel they should have thought of first (since they feel they are the superior, intellectual beings after all).
Their arrogance could be their downfall, but effective exploitation seems to be difficult achieve.

Pelosi already said she was briefed, too.

Are these people really that stoopid? Don't they know the WH keeps meticulous records on who is briefed on what and when?

W should start NAMING NAMES immediately.

IMHO, only because so many do not have the gumption to be direct with them. Too afraid of what they consider, "political" backlash. And that's our problem. Too many politicians and not enough statesmen. Too many worried about their so-called political career and legacy as opposed to what's right and the untarnished future of our Republic.

If you do what's right and stand firm, to this day I believe most Americans will respect and appreciate that and the career part and the legacy will take care of itself.

I don't claim to know for sure, tillacum, but my understanding is that it's the Patriot Act which permitted intel agencies to talk with each other. The president even said something to that effect today.

Still, he insisted that it made no difference that Democratic congressional leaders knew about the NSA program, telling Fox News Sunday: "This is something that's [the responsibility of] the president and the vice president and there's no way he can pass the buck."

It seems to me that Reid is passing the buck on Congressional Oversight. What good does it do to be outraged about it now if he (and Pelosi) thought it was wrong then? Where was the oversight then? Why are they only calling for probes now that the NYT has published the story?

I guess that means that the NYTimes is lying too since their story specifically mentioned that Rockefeller was told about this in 2003.

I already had that section; thanks. I'd forgotten that was called 1802.

From my reading of that particular section, it only mention warrantless wiretaps of foreigners. The section I've been posting today seems to overcome that obstacle.

Also, Congress passed legislation after 9/11 that overcomes that obstacle.

Too many politicians and not enough statesmen.

True enough.
Independent wealth seems to be a precursor to electability though. Not a new development, but, statesmanship and wealth are a combination that appears to be difficult to find in this day and age.

W is wise to keep quiet for now. Let it stew and reach the public in as large of fashion as possible. Let CNN make it their new banner for the next 2 months. Let them form a committee, start an investigation. Let them record some more quality Dean / Kerry video quotes for their next ad. THEN, and only then, drop the truth bomb.
It has a much more interesting impact at that stage. hehehe

This is simply fodder for the moonbat's consumption. The DNC knows full-well who was briefed and when.

It's interesting to me upon popping open my browser this morning, to not see even ONE headline coming out of YaPoo about the eavesdropping story.

I'll have to check around FR and blogs further today, but I wonder if the President hasn't knocked the wind out of their sails on this already. We'll see.
