I am proud to live in a country where religious freedom is a fundamental belief, and where our elected officials are judged by their performance in office, without religious tests. Though the beliefs they hold in their hearts surely inform every decision they make, elected officials are properly judged by the policies they pursue, not by the religion they practice or by their adherence to the tenets of our own religious beliefs. So, I was troubled to read that picketers protested Mayor Thomas M. Meninos address to the Catholic Charities of Greater Boston Christmas dinner earlier this month, criticizing the charity for honoring him, and mistakenly accusing the mayor of having spent his whole career working against Catholic principles.

What drivel: along as he goes against Church teaching, he's OK.
Cafeteria Catholic ......... I must be free to design my OWN faith.
To TuhRayZuh:
Awwww, shuttup!
Teresa,
In this country, we possess freedoms despise by despots and villains such as yourself. In this country we possess freedom to shine the light of truth on cowards and traitors such as your newest of aquired political husbandman.
You lack a fundamental grasp of freedom's scope, which is a natural consequence of your ancestry, upbringing and your cultural habits in Mozambique.
"It was an understanding of these persecuted minorities experience in the Old World that moved the Constitutions Framers to guarantee religious freedom, and to separate church and state."
And you are wrong here, Terayza.
What's the bug hububb about the Mayor anyway? I missed it.
HOLY COW !
Exactly. There are far too many sacred cows and cash cows these days!
LOL
Faith must guide, not dictate.... Hmmm....
"I'm 16 and pregnant... my faith tells me this is a human life and I should suffer through the pregnancy and give the child up to adoption.... but then, faith only guides me, it does not dictate...."
I think it would be physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally impossible for her to shut her big fat mouth.
Her mouth is matched ONLY by her arrogance.
Her article title is internally inconsistent. She's saying faith MUST not dictate, which is dictating to those of faith. Sheesh, what a moonbat.
Didn't the dems just have a press conference last week blasting Republican budget cuts for not being "Christlike?"
Ok, being "nice" is not being Catholic, being Catholic is following the teachings of the Church.
So I guess Theresa Heinz thinks the Archbishop is wrong, too. Archbishop O'Malley also protested by not attending the dinner:
"Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley has canceled plans to attend the annual Christmas dinner for Catholic Charities next month because the event is honoring Mayor Thomas M. Menino, a supporter of Catholic Charities who has also been an outspoken advocate of abortion rights and same-sex marriage."

Social justice is the offspring, not the parent.
" But I believe that even if we do not walk toward the truth in perfect rhythm, my church will embrace me, imperfections and all, and that together we can seek a better understanding of God and of our own role on Earth..."
In other words, I will walk in my own light and what I judge to be correct, not the Magisterium and 2000 years of Christianity.
The Church does embrace all those who walk in imperfection for "in inquity I was conceived."
The Church also calls all people to come to Christ in HIS perfection. Christ called all of us to charity in all our possessions. Shouldn't that charity be paramount to the least among us, the infants in utero, the elderly and disabled who cannot protect themselves from termination because they are inconvenient and costly, the middle-class whose lives of simple piety and goodness are sneered at by the elites who deride them, the culture that costs our children their innocence in the name of sexual diversity.
I think Christ meant that charity means being what he wants, not what our own light says it right.
When Mama T writes an editorial complaining about homosexuals protesting and harassing the boy scouts, Catholics, conservative politicians, etc., I will beleive she really wants people to be left alone in their morality. Otherwise, she is just another liberal screeching "don't treat us like we treat you! Shut up and get back in the closet cause we are losing elections!"
It's not what kind of intentions the road is paved with that matters, it's whether it leads to hell.
