If we define "torture" as anything that causes the slightest discomfort to the terrorists, I can only imagine that we will wind up losing information that we would otherwise get.
To: PlainOleAmerican
McCain and the President both screwed up.
The President should have immediately endorsed the ban on torture instead of flip-flopping. If he insisted on having torture he should have stuck to his guns.
McCain should have dropped this after the President failed to do the right thing.
Now, we have the worst possible outcome.
1. The whole world thinks the President favors torture and that we are bad guys.
2. We lose the practical advantage of being able to torture
3. McCain is even better situated for a run at the Presidency.

Self-promoter that he is, McCain probably can't help himself. I don't think he even realizes, let alone cares, what he's done. Worse, though, is what the President did. To sign onto this treacherous legislation is a signal (at least to me, and probably to the terrorists too) that he's no longer serious about fighting terror.

McCain is sure not to get out of the primaries now. I can just see the commercials. Two terrorists watching the announcement of McCain's new law, turn to each other and give high fives and say "Thank you Senator McCain"

Imagine being Bin Laden today reading "We've sent a message to the world that the United States is not like the terrorists," Senator McCain said, sitting next to the president in the Oval Office on Thursday. Did he say that!! Did he really say that!!!!!
For heaven's sake put the man were he belongs - a rest home. (No I don't mean the Senate.)

I am really beginning to believe that McCain is insane.
Over the last ten years he has become more and more bizarre.
It makes me wonder if anything he has said about his life experiences are even true. or are they just illusions.

It will be most rewarding to watch McCain get his butt kicked in the primaries ... again.

I am at a lost for words. These prisoners live better under US custody than they have their entire lives. Health care, warm beds, three squares a day with food better than I have at my home. They have a menu. A menu. A damn menu.
I guess now we will just put them in the angry corner when they chop someones head off. If they commit acts of terrorism, they will have to go to time out and a nasty letter will be sent home with them.
I know. Anyone caught chopping off heads will have to wear a frowny face sticker...uh, yeah, your chicken a'la orange is coming right up mister terrorist. Do you need another pillow? you slippers?
Do these clueless people not understand that we can appease these terrorists all day and at the end of the day, they still want to murder us and our families.

this should read more like We've sent a message to the world that the United States leaders will pamper the terrorists, Senator McCain said, sitting next to the president in the Oval Office on Thursday. This will help us enormously in winning the hearts and minds of the terrorists throughout the world and hopefully, terrorists will see that we mean them no harm and attack someone else. Failing that, we, the leaders of the USA will gladly surrender the general populace of America for whatever fate the terrorists deem suitable...

This really irks me, bad. The terrorists know that they can pretty much do whatever they want with no consequences.

Wow! I had to double check the headline and was surprised to find that this was written in Canada! At least some of our friends "Up North" get it! I just wish our Senator's would have the same epiphany! Mr. McCain has been a big disappointment in the last few years. He's done enough damage to our electoral process, now he's working on our National Security!
He needs to get off the stage!

In the coming years we will have to fight here or accept any dictate. There will be as many factions here as there are in Iraq. One third of America will side with the enemy.

Yes, like it was really necessary to illustrate the difference with this new law. I mean after all, the US might be thought of as a terrorist state, the greatest country on the planet that people risk their lives constantly to get to, right Johnnie?

"We've sent a message to the world that the United States is not like the terrorists," Senator McCain said, sitting next to the president in the Oval Office on Thursday. And Dubya shoulda knocked 'em on his @ss for embarrassing him...AGAIN.
But then there's the question: WHY would the President give the dishonorable McCain the Oval Office itself to launch yet one more grandstanding opportunity aimed at weakening U.S. security and free speech (CFR)?
The the SS GOP appears to have hit an iceburg -- and it's name is John McCain.
