Brilliant, funny and spot-on!
"It is time to admit the war on poverty is a quagmire and the federal government should withdraw. The Constitution never authorized us to enter this war in the first place. Lets send a strong message to the individual states: we are going to cut and run from the war on poverty.
"Does anyone want to defend the progress or accomplishments we have made with our efforts fighting the war on poverty? Anyone?"
DING DING DING DING!
This article, which might be instructive on Sesame Street, is an embarrassment in a mature country, presumably politically mature, where the citizenry are adults, being led by the cream of the crop.
When an article makes one go "D'OH!", perhaps the problem is beyond (peaceful) repair...
Interesting that you had such a negative reaction. I thought the analogy to the war on poverty was a brilliant stroke that I had not seen elsewhere. De gustibus, etc.
And I agree with you! Great analogy... I thought the football analogy was a bit tortured, but comparing our efforts in Iraq with the War on Poverty is brilliant. I wouldn't be surprised if Rush runs with this today.
Please note that we are reporting this incident to Senator McCain's office.
No matter how you phrase it or debate it the democrats interest are keeping fellow Americans dependant, like children. Taking from those who have managed on thier own, like children. They are against helping others when it might cost something, like children, even when the benefit would be for everyone.
Because so many Democrats operate at the Mickey Mouse level. That's often why they're Democrats.
D'OH is the sound a eureka makes.
GREAT post! How I wish we could take this seriously and "run with it". But then again, what would I know about the situation? Hmmmm, just that my husband and I were able to work long enough to reach a fairly comfortable retirement.
D'OH is the sound a eureka makes.
He has not acted "unbelievably competently"
1. We are still screening grandmas and children at airports (Norm Mineta is STILL in office!)
2. We are playing kissy-face with the so-called "Palestinian Authority" and unbelievably, with Hamas.
3. Syria and Iran actively support the Iraqi and Palestinian murder gangs while the U.S. mildly wags a finger in chastisement.
4. GWB apparently has come on board with the McCain Terrorist Coddling Act.
This is brilliant thanks for the post
Not to mention that it ends up supporting the concept of the Welfare State. Go figure.
Excellent!!
If Grandma's were not screened how would you dress as a terrorist?

Why is it necessary to make mickey mouse analyses to deal with adult topics? This article, which might be instructive on Sesame Street, is an embarrassment in a mature country, presumably politically mature, where the citizenry are adults, being led by the cream of the crop.IMHO, both of you need to consider the target audience of this article. Certainly not us!
Someone mentally deformed enough to say,
"I have a plan."or
"War in Iraq is just plain wrong."or
"The idea that the United States is going to win the war in Iraq is just plain wrong."or
"We should follow the lead of Congressman John Murtha, who has put forth a plan to make American safer, to make our military stronger and to make Iraq more stable"or
"The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion. The American public is way ahead of us. The United States and coalition troops have done all they can in Iraq, but it is time for a change in direction. Our military is suffering. The future of our country is at risk. We can not continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interest of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf Region."(saved the best for last :) will struggle to get their mind around the philosophy expressed in this article.
Interesting concept -- perhaps it could apply to the "Selectively Enforced War on Drugs, Students and Parents," also.
