Iran's Armageddon by Charles Krauthammer

Lest you get carried away with today's good news from Iraq, consider what's happening next door in Iran. The wild pronouncements of the new Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have gotten sporadic press ever since he called for Israel to be wiped off the map. He subsequently amended himself to say that Israel should simply be extirpated from the Middle East map and moved to some German or Austrian province. Perhaps near the site of an old extermination camp?

Does the name lucifer ring a bell? Whatever, I think it's called seriously delusional, as in a messianic complex. Dangerous.

I would expect Iran to be obliterated within minutes of "wiping Israel off the map". And this guy doesn't get it.

Unfortunately, he does get it. And, he doesn't care.

It's all "Inchallah" - If it's Allah's wish.

An Agreement With the Absent Imam
Kamal Tehrani

A long time ago, the boundaries of imagination and reality merged. You may be surprised, but in today’s Iran, such stories still abound. Even among its cabinet members.

In a formal cabinet meeting chaired by Iran's new president’s first deputy, the ministers printed and ratified an agreement with the Shiites' 12th Imam. In his opening remarks, Parviz Davoudi, Ahmadinejad' first deputy suggested that the cabinet ministers should sign an agreement with 12th Imam, the same way they signed a pact with the new president. The ministers collectively agreed and so there is now an agreement between the two! The ministers then questioned how the 12th hidden Imam will sign the agreement!

The solution was resolved when the government's cabinet ministers agreed to ask Saffar Harandi, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance how president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad planned to take the letter to the holy Imam. Next Thursday night, Saffar Harandi dropped the singed agreement to the Jamkaran well, a spot that Moslem religious groups believe is where the Shiite 12th Imam is hidden. This well is also the resting place for tons of letters and requests from Muslim pilgrims.

A short while after the cabinet ministers' collective agreement, the government spent 70 billion rials to feed the needy pilgrims of Jamkaran Mosque. At the Transportation Minister's suggestion, this money would be spent to reconstruct the roads leading to Jamkaran and to allocate large amount of money for other similar projects. There was strong criticism on this from all fronts and even Ahmadinejad seemed very offended. He said that this government was not in power to build roads and that it should be thankful to 12th Imam's blessing for being in power.

The most important contemplating issue is that a large number of Ahmadinejad's close allies are talking about preparing the grounds for the hidden Imam's imminent manifestation and seriously and explicitly relate it to Iran's nuclear program. Based on informed sources in their conservative inner circles, they believe that resisting the international pressures and insisting on Iran's right to have nuclear capabilities will help the manifestation of the 12th Imam.

Some analysts believe that such talk among senior members of the new Iranian government indicates how deeply Ahmadinead and his supporters are influenced by ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi and his students in Qom's religious circles. The unprecedented presence of many of his strong supporters in senior government positions and presidential offices is a good indication of these claim.

If we still have a nuclear defense treaty with Israel you are 100% correct.

Hell in that case, a handgrenade could do the job :)

This is what the main fight is between the Sunni's and the Shiite's. Who will be the 12th Mahdi. The 12th one is supposedly in hiding because the prior ones have been killed by sunni's. It's a fight over leadership in the end. They also believe Jesus will return with him and declare that he was wrong about the Jews and order them all to be killed.
Uh-huh. I know. But they are fanatics in their beliefs.

According to end times prophecy, it is Persia(Iran) and Russia that strike against Israel.

..."They cannot accomplish this without our help..."

What if Israeli aircraft - if capable - or even Israeli pilots, were able to use US carriers as a base to strike Iran? Say under the guise of a joint "training" exercise? There is enough time between now and March 2006 to train them up...

Once again, what you envision is a joint operation between the Israelis and the U.S. The world at large and our liberals in Congress would be outraged that the President authorized this without their consent. The U.S. has backed itself into a corner by Bush coming out and saying intelligence was wrong for Iraq.

This is the same '12th Imam' warning that Weldon spoke of in his book 'Countdown to Terror"

We ignore this at our peril

I can't believe that Israel is just going to sit back and do nothing until that Iranian fruitcake of a President decides to flip a missile at them.

That is not the way the IDF works.
