The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

He hasn't been heard from in more than a year, but one news site reports that it has obtained a new tape of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

But U.S. officials are skeptical of the report, CBS News reports.

The story from Pajhwok Afghan News, dated Tuesday, describes a new 30-minute tape with a message from Taliban commander Mullah Dodallah and the al Qaeda leader, according to the IntelCenter, a U.S. government contractor that does work for intelligence agencies.

"Charleston Airport Screener's Device Recovered; Computer Found on Charlotte Flight"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Screeners at Charleston International Airport last saw the iPAQ computer about 5 a.m. near a podium used by a security checkpoint manager, said Christopher White, a TSA spokesman. Authorities failed to recover the computer after public announcements near the checkpoint and in the terminal. They later determined the device may have been taken onto U.S. Airways Flight 2226, which departs at 6 a.m. daily.

"We identified a flight from Charleston to Charlotte and contacted TSA officials in Charlotte to prepare to reverse screen passengers on that flight," White said. "The passengers walked off the plane and we quickly located the PDA on a seat."

Airport police made no immediate arrests at either end. The Charleston County Aviation Authority, however, continued to investigate the theft, a police report states. The property was returned on a flight to Charleston."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An article in the Saudi Gazette of June 21, 2005, titled "Saudi Suicide Bomber was a Comedian," reported that one of its on-air employees was martyred in a terror attack in Iraq: "Al-Majd channel acknowledged this week that Saudi suicide bomber Muhammad Shazzaf Al-Shehri, who attacked the Al-Hamra Oasis Village compound in Riyadh on May 12, 2003, was a math teacher and a hired comedian for the television station."

It further stated: "Just as the Ministry of Education was shocked to be informed that one of their own mathematics teachers was a suicide bomber, and just as King Saud University was also shocked that one of its former students and associates was a suicide bomber, Al-Majd channel also is shocked that one of its freelance comedians was a suicide bomber."

Responding to claims that Al-Majd is a "hatching ground for terrorists," a statement by the network defending the channel's integrity, as reported in the Saudi Gazette, explained: "The programs on the TV screen will speak out our innocence."

The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein's air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.

The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, "Saddam's Secrets," released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.

"There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands," Mr. Sada said. "I am confident they were taken over."

ICE ARRESTS 11 ILLEGAL ALIENS AT TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE
-Arrests part of ICE’s critical infrastructure protection mission-



PANAMA CITY – Eleven men were arrested here today by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents following the discovery of their illegal presence in the country by military personnel working at the base’s main gate.

The men, all citizens of Mexico, were employed by a sub-contractor to do concrete work at the military base.

Military personnel immediately contacted ICE to verify the status of those seeking entry into the facility. ICE special agents from the Office of the Resident Agent-in-Charge in Pensacola responded to the scene and confirmed that the men were illegally present in the country.

Nine of the 11 men were placed into administrative removal proceedings for immigration violations. They will appear before an immigration judge at a later date. The remaining two men were immediately taken into ICE custody, as they are mandatory detention cases. One illegally re-entered the country after being deported, while the other is a convicted aggravated felon.

“We are committed to working with our law enforcement partners in shutting down national security and public safety vulnerabilities,” said Robert W. Weber, special agent-in-charge in Tampa. “Due to the vigilance of military personnel at Tyndall and their coordination with ICE, we were able to take immediate action by intercepting these 11 individuals prior to breaching security at the military installation.”

In accordance with ICE’s homeland security mission, ICE prioritizes worksite enforcement efforts by focusing on investigations related to critical infrastructure, national security and employers who engage in egregious criminal violations. Unauthorized workers employed in sensitive security sites and critical infrastructure facilities -- such as military installations, airports, nuclear power and chemical plants and defense contractors -- are vulnerable to exploitation by terrorists, smugglers, traffickers or other criminals.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Investigators arrested two people and seized tens of millions of dollars worth of cocaine in what could be the biggest drug bust in Sampson County history.

On Monday, Alejandro Moreno-Salgado, 27, of Harrells and Isais Mareno-Ochea, 41, of Rose Hill were taken into custody as a result of the seizure on Edmond Matthis Road in Sampson County. Authorities said they expected to find some cocaine there, but not 200 kilos worth.

"I had no idea," said Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton.

The drugs found measured out to around 440 pounds, with a street value of $20 million. That was more illegal drugs than were found in the county during all of 2005.

"It was our largest (bust) ever,” said Thornton."

Border Patrol Arrests MS Gang Members


In less than a week, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents have arrested five Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members in five separate incidents across South Texas.

The first arrest occurred on Saturday when agents arrested seven people trying to cross into the U.S. west of the Brownsville International Bridge.

One of those detained was a 20-year-old man from El Salvador who had tattoos similar to those used by MS-13 gang members. The man had previously been deported and had a criminal record in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, Kingsville Border Patrol agents arrested 17 illegal immigrants near Rivera. Among those arrested was an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador with an extensive criminal record for weapons violations, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

On the same day agents in Harlingen arrested a group in Combes which included an MS013 gang member.

The fourth arrest happened Monday near Rio Grande City and the final arrest of an MS-13 member happened north of Corpus Christi.
