Iraq Extends Voting After High Turnout
AP ^

Posted on 12/15/2005 6:29:27 AM PST by Democracy In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqis voted in a historic parliamentary election Thursday, with strong turnout reported in Sunni Arab areas and even a shortage of ballots in some precincts. Several explosions rocked Baghdad throughout the day, but the level of violence was low. The Iraqi election commission extended voting in the country by an hour because of the high turnout.

The heavy participation by the Sunnis, who had shunned balloting last January, bolstered U.S. hopes of calming the insurgency enough to begin withdrawing its troops next year.

What CNN really means is that they are praying for violence to undermine the vote.

10) Sadr's militia is in control of 4 cities
11) It will be an Islamic fundamentalist gov't
12) The Iraqi's hate the Americans
13) It will be a bloodbath to take Fallujah

And don't forget...on a related topic: Alexander the Great, the British Empire and the Soviet Union could not subdue Afghanistan. All empires fail there....

From iraqthemodel:

For some unknown reason, the IECI authority in Kirkuk limited the press access to only 5 polling centers; two in the Turkmen region and one in each of the Kurdish, Arab and Assyrian regions of the city.

This is an excellent idea considering that the terrorists will go where the cameras are, and widespread press access would demand that every poll with press access be fortified, manned, and secure. It also ensures that people wandering around with camcorders recording polling stations would be easily identified and watched.

"We need to keep track of the most creative negative spins from the MSM. Of which there will be countless versions."

"Voting irregularities" will be a big meme. I heard it already on NPR this morning. The response should be that we in the US have been voting for centuries and there are always allegations of voting irregularities (usually in rat districts)...

But Liberals hate true freedom. That is why they aren't excited.

Those who are truly free don't buy their garbage.

My vote for negative spin will be that the very high turnout means that each group in Iraq is deathly afraid of the other groups, therefore they voted in large numbers simply to protect themselves. While there is some truth to this, it is true in all nations that have elections. Anyone here deathly afraid of the Dims?? ((raiseshand))

Anyway, they definitely won't spin it to mean that Iraqis really want to be part of this process, and the fact that the results this time will effect them for an entire four year term. Iraqis won't be embracing demcracy, they'll be voting just in self-defense. You'll see alot of that from the MSM.

"Oh no they can't have elections over there, they are not ready. It will never work."

Of course this is the Rats line on both the Iraqi and the New Orleans Mayoral elections.

"NPR never gets the priveledge of my radio tuner. ;o)"

Living in a small town in Northern California, there is not much "news radio" so I listen during my short commute to work when I log on and listen to Tony Snow, Rush, Medved and Levin all day, in that order. As to NPR, they do p*ss me off (you'd think Tom Delay was Watergate LOL) but I love it when they have to report good news....
