PARIS: A group of Islamic militants detained on Monday in the Paris region have indirect contact with al Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said.
Four hundred police detained 25 people in a string of dawn raids.
They were suspected of financing Islamist militancy by staging armed robberies.
''This group had links with a number of dangerous groups,'' Sarkozy told the National Assembly lower house of parliament yesterday during questions to the government.
''We also know that this group, 25 people, have indirect links to important al Qaeda leaders and al-Zarqawi,'' he said, without elaborating.
Anti-terrorism magistrates have until Friday to decide whether to place the group arrested on Monday under formal investigation on suspicion of terrorism charges.
In July, the head of the French police service said the radical Algerian Islamist group the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat had been in contact with Zarqawi about launching attacks in North Africa and probably France.

I hope that the frogs will leave this scum in a lonley dungeon with a balanced diet consisting of pig-inwards for the rest of their lives.
We Euopeans have to get rid of these angry young terrorists before we waste our time with headscarfes or other BS. Zero tolerance!
since you are european, you must realize your situation for what it is. europe is doomed and its doomed by its own hand. if you are more normal than the average euro lunatic, we would welcome you to live in the usa. but please give up the thought that europe has a future, it does not.

These are some very bad guys. GSPC is an Al Qaida linked group, and a pretty seasoned and capable organization. They're competent enough to start a Zarqawi like uprising. If they've made inroads into France, than France is in trouble. If the GSPC is looking to infiltrate and hijack the 'disaffected Muslim youth movmement' in Paris, within a few years Paris will look like Baghdad.

Thank you for the invitation! :-) You can imagine that conservatives like me are completely frustrated about the current political situation in Europe. The thing is, that if we will leave there will be indeed no hope for the old continent. It is better to fight than to give in. BTW - I live in southern Germany and things aren't really that bad like in the suburbs of Paris or Berlin. Since I love my country and my people and I have a good existence, it is not that easy to leave with three kids and a wife either. Furthermore I think there is no place on this world that is really perfect. Although I am a university graduate I am not that sure if your country would really accept me.
Nevertheless there are much more sensible politicians on their way that it was just one year ago. Sarkozy and Merkel will change the attitudes towards the US completely if they get their chance to do so. Europe must define itself in a complete new way. If we want this to succeed we need persons in Europe who help to trigger this process. I try to bring in my contribution.
Europe needs more than that. The US culture of feminist greed too is guilty. End abortion, raise the importance of family, Christianity and free entreprize, end the PC, be ready to tolerate some form of Pinochet style authoritarianism to rid of islam and socialism the place.
Take any flight to Mexico city and scamper across the boarder on foot, thousands do it every day. If you prefer a northern clime then fly in via Montreal and you can drive here.
You don't need any papers now a days.
Wrong strategy. You will not succeed if you want to force Europeans into a theocracy or into some other authoritarism BS. The solution is real freedom and democracy. There is a severe lack of it in Europe.
Things aren't that bad that I would do this.
BTTT
angry yutes my a$$
