Canada: Their Mouth is Writing a Check They Might Not be Able to Cash
Chicago Boyz ^ | December 14, 2005 | James R. Rummel

According to this news report the US Ambassador to Canada, David Wilkins, has given a speech where he warns Canadian politicians against bashing the United States in an effort to gain votes in the coming election.

The issues that concern me the most are self defense and national defense (with the environment coming in a distant 3rd), and I’ve been frustrated with the way the Canadian government has acted on those issues for the past few years. But what’s been even more maddening is the way that the Canadian government and media has insisted that they’re better than the Americans in some way, even though they appear to be failing miserably while we’re actually making progress.

Ambassador Wilkins's remarks indicate that there may just be some payback for using the US as their favorite whipping boy….

"It may be smart election politics to thump your chest and constantly criticize your friend and your No. 1 trading partner. But it's a slippery slope and all of us should hope it doesn't have a long-term impact on our relationship."

American disgust with what we saw as French duplicity had a profound effect on their economy, even without any action by the US government. It sounds like the current administration in Washington has decided that enough is finally enough. If this is pushed as an issue in the States, and Canadian rhetoric is brought to the attention of US voters/consumers, then Canada could be in for a rather rude awakening.

Another thing that many “world leaders” seem to have forgotten is that George Bush is going to be President for the next three years. It’s in their best interests to try and improve relations with America, instead of destroying any good will in an effort to garner short-term advantage at the polls.

I thought that Canuckistan was way up on CO2 emissions, even though they signed the Kyoto economic death pact.

No, what I posted is an excerpt of their blog roll.

I just forgot to "-snip-" it.

Americans should think seriously about a boycott of Canadians french companies and their anti-American government, due to the efforts of the Canadian government to undermine international support for the United States. I believe the government of Canada does not take terrorism seriously and encourages very anti-American sentiments.

Political bashing of the USA hoping to get more votes says more about the voters in Canada than the politicians. Do the voters in Canada like America bashing?

You Americans are so naive -- just don't get the subtleties and nuances of international agreements. They aren't about actually doing anything -- they're all about saying nice stuff. {/Sarc}

What does Canada make that we can boycott? GM and Ford cars?

"It’s in their best interests to try and improve relations with America, instead of destroying any good will in an effort to garner short-term advantage at the polls."

This is untrue, I think, when talking about Martin and the other liberal politicians. To them, there is only re-election and nothing else. Long-term Canadian interests mean nothing if they are not in power.

Most likely a continuing typo.

Bush is responsible for Global Warning (of those who may not see it our way).

We wouldn't have to boycott anything.

Things like tightening up on border crossings would throw a real crimp into their economy.

Well, not anymore now that GM is closing their main plant, LoL!
The Liberals will continue to shoot themselves in the foot, it''s interesting to keep track of the stupid things they keep on saying along the campaign trail. They not only say stupid things about Bush, they even insult Canadians, saying they are too stupid to raise their own kids, which is why the Liberals want to institutionalize them from the moment of birth so the brainwashing can begin. Hitler's socialist dream is coming true in the 21st century in Canada. Once the Muslims take over they will simply change the name of these childcare centers to "madrassa's".
If Canadians elect another Liberal government, they won't have to worry about US/Canadian trade relations. They won't have much of a country left to have anything to trade. Who will butter the bread to pay for the growing wefare state 'cradle to grave' socialist program improvements the liberals are promising? As the auto pack trade agreements crumble between Canada (or rather, Ontario) so will the money tree Ottawa's liberals shake and bribe there base voting block with. (and stuff the fruit in their own packets as well)

Canada should STFU before we amass a platoon of Cub Scouts on the border and invade them.

All our Ford Crown Vic police cars are made in Canada.

Honda Civics made there also.
