Supporters of executed man want ‘statesman’s’ funeral

SAN FRANCISCO — The argument over whether convicted killer Stanley (Tookie) Williams was a man of peace or a death-row con artist raged on after his execution Tuesday, with supporters announcing they would give him a funeral “befitting a statesman.”
The 51-year-old founder of the bloody Crips gang died by injection at San Quentin Prison just after midnight for the murders of four people in two 1979 holdups, professing his innocence to the very end, even when an admission of guilt might have helped save his life. His last, best hope was an act of mercy by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. But the governor was unconvinced by Williams’ supporters, several Hollywood stars among them, who argued that he had redeemed himself behind bars with memoirs, children’s books and lectures against the dangers of gang life.
After the execution, Williams’ supporters vowed to continue his work to discourage youngsters from following in his footsteps, and promised another book from writings he left behind.
“If they think they succeeded by killing him in getting people to forget about him, they have done just the opposite,” said Barbara Becnel, his collaborator and most vocal supporter.
Williams declined to make a final statement as he went to his death.
He seemed frustrated by the time it took officials to insert the intravenous lines into the former bodybuilder’s muscular arms. At one point, Williams uttered something to the nurse and offered to help, said Steve Ornoski, the warden. About 15 minutes after the process began, he appeared to ask: “You doing that right?”
Williams refused a sedative, said Becnel, one of the witnesses. She said he was “brave and strong and he was everything we believed him to be.”
Other witnesses included Rudy Langlais, executive producer of Redemption: The Stanley Tookie Williams Story, a TV movie starring Jamie Foxx.
Joan Baez, who sang Swing Low, Sweet Chariot outside the prison, called the execution “planned, efficient, calculated, antiseptic, cold-blooded murder.”
I hope protestors show up with pictures of the crime scenes.

Better they spend lavish amounts of money on horse-drawn hearses and a bling-bling casket than on actually bettering the lot of the poor kids Tookie had devoted his life to rescuing.
But they can save money on pallbearers - they'll only need two, 'cause a garbage can only has two handles.

As opposed to the 4 (at least) planned, gruesomely bloody, calculated, septic, cold-blooded murders the convict committed. These mourners are the same people who militate for turning even more of the economy and command control of people's lives to the state, yet argue incessantly for the 100% privatization of the death penalty, so that only monsters like this fellow can decide who lives and who dies. "1000 state executions since 19XX" get headlines, but the 100 times or more "privatized death penalties" inflicted during the same period get pg 37, inside column, if anything.

Tookie's extended 15 minutes are over, and so are Barbara Becnel's. She may try to stretch them out for a little while, but it will be futile. The Hollywood celebrities have already moved on.
Tookie is dead, and nobody cares anymore. Nobody who supported him really cared before, except to score cheap political points. The Tookie Williams cottage industry is going out of business.
Did his victims get a sedative also? Before he shot them?

1. anaesthetic
2. muscle relaxant
3. KCL i.e. potassium chloride
None of these substances are considered "poison" in the
way that cyanide is considered poison.
I understand how you feel, but...
We can and should judge the evil acts a person commits. I cannot judge, or even comment upon, the ultimate eternal destination of any person.
I better go buy a bottle of extra-strength Tylenol. Next thing you know the MSM will pre-empt their programming and force us all to watch this charade.

I heard about this on talk radio. Rush I think. Insanity is the issue. The man is a criminal. end of argument. Cremate him and dispose of ashes in the same matter of any other criminal...
