Tancredo: 51 Terrorist Suspects Crossed Border Illegally
Joint Terrorism Taskforces Report 51 Persons Arrested on Terrorism-Related Charges in Last Year
WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today revealed figures which show that since October, 2004, 51 persons who have crossed into the U.S. illegally were arrested on suspicion of terrorism. The figures, part of a Department of Homeland Security response to a inquiry by the Congressman, document the national security risk our porous borders pose on the eve of Congress first attempt to rewrite immigration law in nearly a decade.
Federal law enforcement coordinates its terrorism efforts through Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs), which include officials from the Justice and Homeland Security Departments. Since October, 2004, JTTFs have kept track of arrested terrorist suspects who are in the U.S. illegally. The JTTF document shows 51 persons were arrested who had entered without inspection into the U.S. from countries such as Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria and Pakistan.
If this isnt a wake-up call to our lax border security, I dont know what is, said Tancredo. What scares me is not this list from federal law enforcementafter all, weve already caught those terrorists. What scares me is the potentially hundreds of terrorists who make their way through our porous borders each year and go undetected.
The JTTF document shows that the suspected illegal alien terrorists were arrested on a wide variety of charges from smuggling weapons into the U.S. to illegally wiring large sums of money into the country. Regardless of the particular charge, each illegal alien was flagged by a JTTF because of his or her suspected ties to terrorism.
This week, the House is scheduled to complete a bill to strengthen our border security and enforce immigration laws throughout the country. Judging by these terrorism figures, Congress is not acting a moment too soon, said Tancredo. Knowing what we know now, what could Congress say if a terrorist attack occurred that secure borders would have prevented? Weve relied on our good fortune for too longwe must protect Americans by stopping terrorist before they get here.

SOUTHERN border? I wish it said one way or the other...
51 out of how many who entered illegally?
Deport Bush.
When does Presidential non action on a secure border = impeachment?
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
Support our Minutemen Patriots!
Be Ever Vigilant ~ Bump!
pourous border bump
The usual ratio is for every illegal the Border Patrol catches 3 or 4 make it successfully through and past the border. One would expect terrorists to be better financed then the average illegal and to be able to pay for the deluxe smuggling service so perhaps even more of them would make it through successfully.
But just assuming the standard success ration 51 caught should translate to about 153 to 204 terrorists roaming free in America. It only took 19 for 9/11 so 150 ought to be able to cause quite a bit of damage. Thanks for nothing. GWB!
That's easy... AFTER the terror attack that occurs because of the lack of national security.
JORDANIAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CONSPIRACY TO SMUGGLE ALIENS INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM THE MIDDLE EAST
December 13, 2005
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A Jordanian man has pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to smuggle illegal aliens from Iraq and Jordan into the United States, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein of the District of Columbia, and Acting Assistant Secretary John P. Clark of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Department of Homeland Security announced today.
Thaer Omran Ismail Asaifi, also known as Abu Harp, entered his guilty plea late yesterday at U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, before Judge Rosemary M. Collyer. Asaifi, 35, admitted to participating in a conspiracy, headed by his wife - naturalized American citizen Neeran Hakim Zaia, of Sterling Heights, Michigan - from early 2001 through September 2004 to illegally smuggle scores of Iraqi and Jordanian nationals into the United States through Ecuador and Peru for profit.
Under the terms of the plea agreement it is expected that Asaifi will face a prison sentence of six to eight years, following which he will be deported. Sentencing is scheduled for May 2006.
"Today's guilty plea represents an important milestone in the three-year ICE undercover investigation known as Operation Tortuga, which targeted a human smuggling organization that moved individuals from the Middle East into the United States for profit. ICE owes a special debt of gratitude to Peruvian authorities who provided critical assistance in combating this criminal syndicate," said ICE Acting Assistant Secretary Clark.
"The Department of Justice is committed to protecting our citizens against the serious security threat posed by human smuggling organizations," said Assistant Attorney General Fisher. "These criminals facilitate the fraudulent and clandestine entry into the United States of unknown foreign individuals, putting the security of our borders at risk.""Human smugglers make their living by circumventing our immigration laws and taking advantage of foreigners seeking a new life in America. These criminals pose a serious risk to our national security, and we will prosecute them to the full extent of the law," said U.S. Attorney Wainstein.
The charges arise from an extraterritorial undercover investigation that was initiated and led by the Washington Field Office of the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with the substantial assistance of personnel and resources from ICE's Detroit, Michigan Office; the ICE Attache Office in Peru; the Peruvian National Police; and Peruvian Immigration authorities. The State Department's Diplomatic Security Service also assisted with the investigation.
The case is being jointly prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce R. Hegyi of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and Jim U. Oliver Jr., Senior Trial Attorney with the Domestic Security Section of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Your tagline will be painfully ironic, I predict.
I am sure that they were only 'geust' terrorists.
Yah. They'd never think of just flying in on airliners, like Atta did.
Czar, I know you've already been pinged, but I thought you or BQ might have knowledge concerning other links/pics regarding items found (with Arabic language) near the border and statements recently made by other Representatives/law enforcement concerning arrests of terrorists, etc.
