The United States on Tuesday International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei's call to state explicitly that it has no plans to launch a military strike against Iran.
The spokesman for the State Department in Washington asserted that at this point the burden of proof lies with the Iranians, and they must follow through with their commitments to the international community.
ElBaradei claimed that an announcement in which the US insists it would not attack, might encourage Iran to cease its nuclear development plans, according to Israel Radio.
Robert Joseph, the US Secretary of State's aide said last week that he believed Iran would not back down from its nuclear ambitions and would even risk UN sanctions.
The IDIOCY of the UN and it's leftist leaders leaves me speechless!!!!
It's absurd to expect any damn Muslim to clamp down on a Muslim nation developing nuclear weapons. Ain't gonna happen. If by some wild chance this El Baradei told the truth about Iran his family would be in danger
Actually Iran does an Arab minority of 5-10%. Some Iranians I've met are indistinguishable from Arabs while some are as fair as Greeks or Italians
ElBaraedi's got a lot of dirt on his hands, having facilitated Iran's nuclear ambitions and orchestrating this deadly charade. Soon there will be buckets of blood on those hands. Hopefully much will be his own.
We're going to need to slide the Isrealis some stealth cruise missiles and 1KT bunker-busters...devoid of any U.S. markings, of course.
We have a group of Iranians moving in across the street. They claim to have been in this country for 17 yrs. I told my Wife, we'll keep an eye on them, just in case.
You have not looked at the map, have you. I don't think you know Middle East geogrpahy.
Israel can't reach, Iran. Iraq is in the way. Saudi Arabia is in the way. Syria is in the way. Jordan is in the way. Iran is way too far away for Israel "to handle" Iran (and, vice versa). Do you know how many miles Iran is from Israel? Do you know how big Iran is? Do you know how many miles the center of Iran is from Israel? Do you know how many miles the northern and eastern edges of Iran is from Israel?
Re "sorties"--you are wrong. The distance to Iran is so far that what aircraft can reach Iran do not have much loiter time. You can't effectively attack Iran from Israel conventionally. A quick tactical nuke strike--yes(even that is problematic in some parts of Iran). A sustained air campaign--can't be done.
Your problem is that you don't know the geography of the Middle East.
......I think Israel can handle Iran and Syria pretty easily simultaneously .......
Israel can not handle Iran. It can dispose of Syrian leadership but can do nothing to significantly harm Iran.
It will be destroyed long before it can win.
The 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 Middle East Wars were fought on Israel's borders. Israel has never attacked Iran. Fighting 1000 miles away from Israel? That has not been done and can't be done, as Israel's and Iran's forces do not have long-range force projection abilities.
"Babygene" said Israel can "field a 1,000,000 man Army". I don't think a lot of you are looking at the geography of the area. It is impossible for Israel to get into a land war with Iran. An air war will not work either; the range is too far.
The only type of war (if ever) between these two nations would be a missile war. Let's hope they are not nuke-tipped missiles.
The Shah of Iran fled into exile in 1979, after increasing riots filled the country. Ayatollah Khomeini, who had thoughtfully been provided a place to stay by the French, returned and took over the country.
This was during Jimmy Carter's presidency. Most observers held him largely responsible. He did nothing to help or support the Shah, but instead he and the western press painted the Shah as a corrupt king who was better gone. Carter supported the return of Khomeini. All the liberals in America were rubbing their hands with delight that that corrupt Shah had been gotten rid of.
What was the Shah's offense? Partly that he was a big spender and a fancy liver. But mostly because he tried to modernize Iran, give rights to women, and things like that. If the U.S. had had a stronger and more capable president, the whole Iranian revolution might have been dealt with very differently.
Israel has aircraft carriers!
Somebody inform Jane's! Quick! Somebody call Drudge!
I never saw an F-15 or F-16 take off from a carrier before. Hey honey, grab the camera--we've gotta see this!
Thousands of missiles aboard "warships" in the Arabian Sea! You don't say. Dang!
Was it drugs, or was it genetically inherited?
setting up iraq as a staging point for us/ israel troops to invade iran isn't a good enough reason to help set up a nation? wasting time in iraq so we already have people there that have wartime experience and are right next door isn't a good enough reason?
