The United States on Tuesday International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei's call to state explicitly that it has no plans to launch a military strike against Iran.
The spokesman for the State Department in Washington asserted that at this point the burden of proof lies with the Iranians, and they must follow through with their commitments to the international community.
ElBaradei claimed that an announcement in which the US insists it would not attack, might encourage Iran to cease its nuclear development plans, according to Israel Radio.
Robert Joseph, the US Secretary of State's aide said last week that he believed Iran would not back down from its nuclear ambitions and would even risk UN sanctions.

They know we're going to bomb anyone we damn well want to. Let's just assume that they are on the path to joining the nuclear club and decide whether or not we're okay with this happening.
We really have been wasting our time and our fighting capability in Iraq. The elections this week are certainly not going to resolve the deep internal divisions of that country, and our marines rebuilding schools in order to win "hearts and minds" is just plain silly. The Iraqis are going to solve their own political and security problems, and they'll have to do it without us if they are ever going to stand up by themselves. We need to pull out to the borders, and start turning our attention to Iran and Syria. We should have done that over a year ago.
We aren't in the ME to nation build, we're there to protect our interests. The bigger threat has always been from Iran, we really should have started with them after securing Afghanistan.

How can Israel "handle" Iran "pretty easily"?
If you are talking conventionally, explain how Israel, logistically, would accomplish this.
What type of war could you envision between Iran and Israel?
If you are talking a missile war, do you know the status of the ABM system Israel has, versus the quantity, range, etc. of Iran's missiles?
I would like to hear what you mean, because I do not know how Israel could handle Iran "easily". Oh, I suppose a surprise sub-launched cruise missile attack with nuclear-tipped SLCMs would do the trick. Short of that. I would like to hear how Israel could handle Iran "easily". What would they do (conventionally)--fight through Iraq to reach Iran? Those would be pretty long supply lines through hostile Iraqi territory. What if Syria (or even Egypt) were to attack Israel while Israel is stretched out trying to inflict a hurt on Iran?
What about all the Russians in Iran? Do Russians man the Russian built SAMs?
