The ACLU of Northern California in San Francisco held a news conference at their offices in downtown San Francisco Monday, shortly after the governor's decision was announced.
Also present were members of Amnesty International and actor Mike Farrell, who is on the board of Death Penalty Focus.
"We are terribly disappointed with the governor," said Dorothy Ehrlich, executive director of ACLU of Northern California.
Magdaleno Rose-Avila of Amnesty International said his organization was shocked by the governor's decision and further "disgusted by his tone ..."
Farrell, perhaps best know for his TV roles in "MASH" and "Providence," lashed out at Schwarzenegger.
"Governor Schwarzenegger has demonstrated he is another cowardly politician," Farrell said, adding the governor tortured Williams in the wait for clemency.
"The questions becomes: What does this act on his part tell us about himself? That he is a creature of politics."

the governor tortured Williams in the wait for clemency. I agree completely. All the more reason to require that a death sentence be carried out with all due haste. Dookie never should have been "tortured" for 25 years. He should have ridden the lightning 48 hours after the jury condemned him.

Has anyone heard this "Nobel Peace Prize nominee" ask for calm in the wake of the Governator's action?

But then,Mike, there's serious talk about Arnold someday
being President. The most serious talk about you that I've ever heard is whether or not you've ever had a face lift.
To: IronJack
Bingo!
this is the real root cause, either execute these people ASAP or eliminate the death penalty, its deterrent value is useless if you get 20 years to live
