Frankly, I had no clue which way he would go, whether he would cave to LA small business wanting to chill a riot and to the adulation of his Hollywood chums or ir he would play it by the book, which is what it looks like he's done.

Either way, I think it was foolish to let it go this long with the mediots fomenting a riot on an hourly basis; it gives the incitors time to plan and gets those who would resent an execution time to get all worked up. IMO, he should have stated his position on this a month ago.

She oversees the 9th Circus. I don't expect Tookie will find any refuge in the Courts, even O'Conner. The 9th Circus has continually turned him down and they never met a condemned man they didn't find a reason to embrace.

Albert Owens also has a daughter that had to grow up without her father thanks to that child activist Tookie Williams.

The bottom line with Tookie is that he is responsible for more pain and death in inner city families than any other person, black or white.

I simply believe they have had long enough and the Governor decided that the facts do not justify clemency.

I believe in the process. The appeals process takes too long to even begin in California..

Before this issue of CityBeat is off the stands, 46-year-old Kevin Cooper will be the 11th person put to death in California since the Supreme Court here reinstated the death penalty in 1977 after a five-year moratorium.

Cooper has been on death row just a few months shy of 19 years, put there by a San Diego jury for the 1983 murder of Douglas and Peggy Ryen, their 10-year-old daughter Jessica and 11-year-old Christopher Hughes, a friend of the family; a judge moved the trial from San Bernardino to San Diego due to the excessive publicity it was getting up north. Dubbed the “Chino Hills Massacre,” all four victims were hacked and slashed repeatedly with a knife and hatchet. Eight-year-old Joshua Ryen survived the attack despite having his throat slit.
