Clooney sick of 'liberal' being 'bad word'
WorldNetDaily ^ | December 11, 2005 | NA

Hollywood's George Clooney is making no apologies for being a political liberal.

"Yes, I'm a liberal and I'm sick of it being a bad word," the actor-director tells the Sunday Times of London.

"I don't know at what time in history liberals have stood on the wrong side of social issues. We thought that blacks should sit at the front of the bus, that women should be allowed to vote, that maybe McCarthy was a jerk, that Vietnam was wrong and strip-bombing Cambodia was probably stupid. We've been on the right side of all these issues."

The distinction between liberal, socialist, communist, Marxist, and anarchist is so subtle as to be non-existant.

If you want to change liberal from a bad word to a good one, you might start by stopping the endless defense of murderers and tyrants, and the endless slander of good men.

I don't know at what time in history liberals have stood on the wrong side of social issues

Here are a few ...

When liberals decided that minorities couldn't make it on their own initiative
When liberals decided that paying dads to leave and welfare moms to have more babies was the compassionate thing to do
When they sent money without accountability to "solve" poroblems (education, New Orleans, etc.)
When they thought that peace without victory was a good option (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq)
When they trusted the communists of any kind to have the public's best interest at heart (from McCarthy to the USSR, to Castro, Mao, Che,...)
When they decided to set up a Ponzi scheme for senior citizens
When they believed that a country could tax itself into prosperity

I guess I have "poroblems" with spelling. That sixth finger tries to sneak in extra letters when I am typing.

I don't know at what time in history liberals have stood on the wrong side of social issues. We thought that blacks should sit at the front of the bus,

actually, the 'Pubbies thought that and are the folks that passed Civil Rights legislation over the screaming objections of Democrats.

that women should be allowed to vote,

Still have an issue with that. Seems like, thanks to women voters, its more important to look good than to be right on the issues.

that maybe McCarthy was a jerk,

McCarthy was right. His problem was that he didn't pursue Communist infiltrators in quiet, methodical fashion and made anti-communism look bad.

that Vietnam was wrong and strip-bombing Cambodia was probably stupid.

We screwed this up. After WWII, we shoulda taken French IndoChina from the Frogs and sent 'em on there way. So we supported an incompetent ally. Sue us.

We've been on the right side of all these issues.

No, you've been on the treasonous side of all these issues. Someone get a rope; there are lamposts that need decorating...

LoonyClueless really needs to wise up to the ugly side of the liberal agenda.

BTW, George, we evil Conservatives don't "strip bomb".

We "strip mine" when we bespoil our precious Gaia and we "carpet bomb" when we oppress helpless Third World villagers.

But we don't ever "strip bomb".

Conservatives believe that all people are created equal. Thus, modern conservatives always believe that slavery and Jim Crow were wrong. Perhaps back in the 50s and 60s that we would have been considered "liberal." The difference is, our values have not shifted with time.

Where Clooney's brand of liberalism believes that not only all human beings are created equal, but that all ideals, values and beliefs should also be considered equal. That is where liberalism and conservatism parts ways.

Impeach the Boy; Blood of Tyrants; JLAGRAYFOX

"The classic liberal philosophy places a particular emphasis on the role of property rights in ensuring the rights of the individual, and forms the philosophical underpinning of the free market system. The precepts of classic liberalism were probably best described by John Locke and Adam Smith, and illuminated much of the thought at the time of the American revolution. As a result, the United States Constitution and the United States Declaration of Independence are both documents that embody many principles of classic liberalism." - Wikipedia definition (which pretty well fits my understanding of it as well.

This perfectly good word was hijacked by the communists/ socialists after the conclusion of World War II. Although they shared a common philosophy with FDR, Marx, and Mao, they needed to disassociate themselves with that political/ economic philosophy as a result of perceived political persecution during the McCarthy hearings. So, just like how homosexuals hijacked the word "gay," socialists hijacked the word "liberal." It sounds much more enlightened.

And so I don't call socialists liberals, I call them what they are: socialists. It would be a good reminder to the public to call them what they are, as well.
