Republicans who turn Democrats usually do so only after massive trauma to the head.

At the time of the Clinton impeachment, CNN, I think it was, had a story about all the Republicans who were switching their registration to Democrat because of their disgust at the Republican Party. Probably as genuine as the people who call in to C-SPAN on the Republican line to bash President Bush.

You don't seem to see any of these types of stories about Republicans switching though Well, you do see these type of stories in the book reviews of Conservative publications on Amazon. Though no one believes them.

RINO: A Republican who turned Democrat but lacks sufficient head trauma to admit it and switch parties.

"A man of twenty and not of the liberal persausion hath no heart, a man of forty and not of the conservative persuasion hath no head!" But back in those days much of what is called "liberal" was is now called "conservative". A classical liberal believes in limited government, personal liberty, and free markets. I don't see the socialists who mislabel themselves as liberals favoring those concepts. Old fashioned 18th century style conservatives have much more in common with them.
