Senator Calls on Bush to Take Down Attack AD

Today, Senator Daniel Inouye, the Ranking Member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his service in World War II, released the following statement:

"As a Veteran of World War II, I know what it’s like to fight a war and put your life on the line every day. I also know what it takes to win a war, and I know that politics and an attack machine like the President’s plays no part in it.

"The Republican Party’s latest ad is a shameful and disgusting attempt to distract the American people from the problems in Iraq. It may improve the President’s political fortunes, but the American people and our troops will pay the price. I hope that President Bush realizes how shameful it is to play politics when what we really need is leadership, and that he will direct his Party to take down this ad immediately."

A line doesn't sound right. Slight correction for proper meaning to come through.

We have many people with medals pinned to their chests but they don't have to use those medals to prop up an indefensible position [I exempt RINO's who are as bad as the Dems in propping medals]. I don't think it would even normally occur to them [Republicans/Conservatives] to abuse the intent of the medals by making them campaign props.

If I were really suspicious, I would say this whole controversy has been staged to put the fear of abandonment into the Iraqi heads.

This has occurred to me also.

I imagine that certain conversations have taken place; conversations between President Bush, or SOS Rice, or SOD Rumsfeld, and senior members of the Iraqi political leadership. Conversations in which the Iraqi's were saying things like "we can't crack down yet, we're not strong enough, you've got to stay and help us..." etc, etc. And our side is saying "you've got to get moving, we can't stay there forever, you've got to get it together and take control of your own country."

And part of this conversation is from our side: "Look, there is a lot of political opposition on our side, we can hold it off temporarily but sooner or later we're going to have to get our people out of there."

I imagine that, against this backdrop, the President and his top staff may just be letting the Democrats do some of their "dirty work" for them (not the right term, I know). They're playing "good cop bad cop," with the left-wing Democrats playing the "bad cop."

This is good because it lights a fire under the Iraqi's, who (it's just human nature) would rather have us carry their water, spend lives and money, as long as possible.

It's also good because it helps the President, master of Texas hold'em, play a massive rope-a-dope with the idiot Dems as long as possible, and, in so doing, make sure a nice big "traitor" sign is hung around their necks for all to see.

Let me see if I can understand this.

An individual acts courageously in battle; this causes an immediate structural change to their brain and from that point forward, they are unable to think or say anything false about complex political and military matters. Even if they tried with every ounce of their energy to say something incorrect or disloyal, a special group of neurons in their brain would prevent the speech centers of their brain from operating.

In fact this explains why the generals from the last war, have such an uncanny accuracy predicting the best tactics and strategy for the next war.

Inouye is a nonentity who has been in the Senate forever. Just to show what kind of pompous a-hole he is: back during Iran-Contra, when Col. Ollie North was testifying, in uniform, as an active duty officer should have, Inouye had a fit of envy(I guess) because Ollie had so many medals.(He did--North had medals all the way down to his butt.) So one day he (Inouye) came to the hearing wearing all HIS medals, from WWII, on his civilian suitcoat.

Just another vet like Murtha, whose common sense and judgment have failed long before they have the decency to "fade away."

Exactly. Screw em! I can't print the words to describe how furious I am at the Dems and the MSM. I curse like a drug lord, just thinking about how those sleeze bags can't wait to see America fail. I don't think the "clue" about the uniforms and medals will happen any time soon...

I keep hearing the libs on Air Amerika say that they have over a dozen Iraq war veterans lined up to challenge some GOP incumbents in the House....

I am sure that will be the ONLY thing they will tout...is the fact that they are veterans...

I am sorry....but ever since Kerry's not so little stunt in the 70's....it is not gonna work to just say...

Good article. All the Dems have done is 'play politics' with the war in Iraq. When the Dems thought the War was popular, they pretended to support it and many of them voted for it. Now that times are tough, the same Libs pretend that they never supported the war and spew defeatist rhetoric to please their anti-American base.

As if it would actually be read, I just left the following message on Senator Inouye's website:

Dear Senator,

You recently referred to the new Republican TV ad which illustrates the treason of several leading Democrat politicians as "a shameful and disgusting attempt to distract the American people from the problems in Iraq." I couldn't disagree more strongly with your statement.

As a former Marine officer and combat veteran with many friends serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am disgusted with your fellow Democrat politicians who have given aid and comfort to our enemies. Their scandalous public statements serve only to demoralize our troops and to encourage our enemies, and clearly reveal that many Democrat politicians are hoping for our military defeat as a means to regain their own lost political power.

A veteran with your background should be ashamed of what your party has become. I understand that the truth must hurt, but I am astounded that you would stoop so low as to defend the indefensible.

During the Watergate hearings, Inouye didn't believe something one of the witnesses said and muttered under his breath, "What a liar!" Someone overheard him and accused him of calling the witness a liar, but Inouye denied having said that. Then it was shown that his words had been picked up by the microphone and were on tape, so Inouye said he must have been referring to himself.

... The dems own the "response curve" on these things. On Sunday shows this weekend Joe Biden will be there (obviously) and decry the infantile tactics of the mean republican internet virus. Ma and pa underinformed will nod in agreement.
