Okay, get this - "Devils and Dust" by Bruce Springsteen, which struck me as yet another anti-war whine/grunt when I saw the video about 20 times on CMT (Country Music Television), gets nominated for Song of the Year, Best Solo Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Contemporary Folk Album, and Best Long Form Music Video.
Kanye "Bush-doesn't-care-about-black-people" West scores 8 nominations.
Green Day, whose frontman says he "would throttle US President GEORGE W BUSH if the two were left alone together - and he'd enjoy doing it.", scores only 1 nomination for Record of the Year.
And finally, the Dixie Chicks get two nominations for "I Hope", a song they wrote for the Katrina relief effort, but did not release for airplay.
Should make for a wonderful evening! Tune in Feb 8th for some wonderous Bush-bashing and anti-war preachin'!
Experts in Domestic and Foreign Affairs...er...I mean Grammy Nominee Ping!
:D
Grammys = Music Industry Mutual Appreciation and Bum Sniffing Gala
Since the soft A/C station where I work now is airing the syndicated John Tesh show overnight - with spots for two local songs an hour as well - It's not uncommon to hear the dang, whining, angst song three or even four time between midnight and 5A!
Even though I'm a >traditional< country western/blue grass fan, I'll admit the lyrics are kinda cool...
FYI here are a few
BREATHE - 2AM
2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
In May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a Day", he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
Strange it was apparently relased at an odd time and didn't make this years nominations, and it'll be so overplayed by next year it won't make it then either. Curious.

As someone once said,"They should have named the award after the phonograph instead of the gramophone..."
Question--Since when did 'throttle' start meaning 'cower and cry like a scared sissy' ?
I make the electricity which makes everything else in the modern world possible! Quiver in fear, mortals!
As for the grammy's, I wouldn't kick a dead hog in the ass for the whole bunch.
In the context that this punk used it, it means to strangle.
Retract that. I needed a (/sarc) tag on that one.
I don't pay any attention to the Grammy's.
Seeing as how 'No Direction Home' informed the world that Dylan isn't the Leftist most thought he was, I doubt he'll win anything.
Thats true...I think the Grammy's are a joke as well. But I also like when Bob gets some attention from the industry, not that he needs it.
By the way, I'm a doctor who helps people in pain.
"Green Day, whose frontman says he "would throttle US President GEORGE W BUSH if the two were left alone together - and he'd enjoy doing it.", scores only 1 nomination for Record of the Year.";
I would think that would earn a secret service visit.
Dylan has been off the reservation for years, and Springsteen (the most over-rated hack in music) never left it.
Dylan's got his reward coming.
Phonograph? What's that?
I was just thinking the other day - how would you explain what film is to today's kids?
Now a 45 is a handgun, not a record.
I can't recall the last time I physically rolled down the window of a car.
I feel old. I am going back to bed.
I won't see the Grammies, I have something else to do. I don't know what, but I'll definitely find something...anything!
