The Jewish Grinch who stole Christmas
Townhall ^ | Dec 8, 2005 | Burt Prelutsky

I never thought I’d live to see the day that Christmas would become a dirty word. You think it hasn’t? Then why is it that people are being prevented from saying it in polite society for fear that it will offend? Schools are being forced to replace “Christmas vacation” with “winter break” in their printed schedules. At Macy’s, the word is verboten even though they’ve made untold millions of dollars from their sympathetic portrayal in the Christmas classic, “Miracle on 34th Street.” Carols, even instrumental versions, are banned in certain places. A major postal delivery service has not only made their drivers doff their Santa caps, but ordered them not to decorate their trucks with Christmas wreaths.

How is it, one well might ask, that in a Christian nation this is happening? And in case you find that designation objectionable, would you deny that India is a Hindu country, that Pakistan is Muslim, that Poland is Catholic? That doesn’t mean those nations are theocracies. But when the overwhelming majority of a country’s population is of one religion, and roughly 90% of Americans happen to be one sort of Christian or another, only a damn fool would deny the obvious.

Although it seems a long time ago, it really wasn’t, that people who came here from other places made every attempt to fit in. Assimilation wasn’t a threat to anyone; it was what the Statue of Liberty represented. E pluribus unum, one out of many, was our motto. The world’s melting pot was our nickname. It didn’t mean that any group of people had to check their customs, culture or cuisine, at the door. It did mean that they, and especially their children, learned English, and that they learned to live and let live.

"When it comes to pushing the multicultural, anti-Christian, agenda, you find Jewish judges, Jewish journalists, and the ACLU, at the forefront."

Is this really news? It's realy just antisemitic ravings that take a real problem and try to blame it on the Jews.

And, in this case, apparently self-hatred. Very odd.

But it's liberal, secular Jews who are doing this. I bet Orthodox Jews couldn't care less if a 95% Christian town has a nativity scene.

Conservative Jews don't care either. It's the Reform (at least the ones who say they are Reform, even though they aren't, don't care, don't go to synagogue and don't think about G-d) and the secular.

What I find particularly funny is that secular Jews celebrate Hanukah, a holiday that celebrates the Macabees. Look up the Macabees and you won't fail to miss the irony in having secular Jews celbrate their victory.

It isn't the Jews, it's the muslims and the liberals (Jewish and Gentile) who have made this an issue. Jews and Christians have been coexisting with each others' holidays for decades with no problem. I worked at a hospital where the Jewish volunteers would cover every year for the Christians so they could spend Christmas at home. It's only recently that the liberals, secularists, and muslims have teamed up to destroy this beautiful holiday. My daughter cannot even sing Christmas songs in school, and when I asked the principal why, he very specifically told me it is because of the influx of Pakistanis and Indians in the area in recent years.

No really it's a type of Jew (not that all socialist atheists are of Jewish origin)----usually a secular Jew of some kind of socialist bent that doesn't bother with his own faith......they're the kind we here too much from in NYC. Hey when the Lubavitcher Rebbe would light the Menorah for Hannukah (a big old public one) I didn't mind a bit.

Give it a rest already. It's starting to sound anti-semitic. And rather than saying: It is the ACLU, which is overwhelmingly Jewish in terms of membership and funding,, how about giving the actual percentage?

I suspect it might just be one of those things from the Commie manifesto. Divide and conquer. Make the Christians hate the Jews. Make the Jews hate the Christians. CONQUER.

Be careful what you believe, folks.

I don't think the author is anti-semitic (he's Jewish) or self-hating. I think he believes that the attack on traditions like Christmas trees, even the words Merry Christmas, are a kind of tyranny of the minority.

Being Jewish, I should report, Christmas was never celebrated by my family. But what was there not to like about the holiday? To begin with, it provided a welcome two week break from school. The decorated trees were nice, the lights were beautiful, “It’s a Wonderful Life” was a great movie, and some of the best Christmas songs were even written by Jews.

Irving Berlin, a Jew, won an Academy Award for White Christmas, and he also wrote Easter Parade and God Bless America among hundreds of other songs.

He's not the only one. Jews Take Credit for Writing, Singing Christmas Songs.

This is a Christian nation, my friends. And all of us are fortunate it is one, and that so many Americans have seen fit to live up to the highest precepts of their religion. Speaking as a member of a minority group – and one of the smaller ones at that – I say it behooves those of us who don’t accept Jesus Christ as our savior to show some gratitude to those who do, and to start respecting the values and traditions of the overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens, just as we keep insisting that they respect ours.

They are Marxists who hide behind the Star of David

When critsized for their anti American zeal cry: 'anti Semitism'..

You can bet their G-d fearing parents and grandparents aren't too happy with them...

I knew one influencial fellow from my home town whose parents held a funeral for him....he was no longer their son let alone a Jew...at least to them..

He was a nice guy though and was in no way a Marxists just very secular in his ideas and relationships.

imo

Let's go a bit beyond the "Merry Chistmas" v. "Happy Holidays" thing. Did you read the series of articles written this past year by Dennis Prager (A Jew himelf) about Judeo-Christian values? It was very enlightening. You were able to get it at the archives of Town Hall.com but I think it has been removed.

Irving Berlin, a Jew, won an Academy Award for White Christmas

Great song...but what I really like is the prologue of Berlin as
he's spending a Christmas in Los Angeles.
He even realized that just ain't a Christmas-y kinda' place.

Yes, I agree. Our school district is the 4-5 largest in the nation and although Jewish children are less than 3 % of the population, the school board is predominantly Jewish. About 10 years ago they renamed Christmas and Easter holiday to Winter & Spring breaks. They inserted Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur as official mandatory holidays in the schedule for the month of September.

At the elementary school at Christmas time the hallways were filled with Hebrew lettering related to Hanukah and no Christmas greetings. Free dreidels were distributed with numbers written on them and worked into a probabilities exercise in the Math Superstars curriculum.

They had a Santa shop as a school fundraiser. The school board insisted that a Hanukah Shop be set up and every class be brought through (Hanukah was already over) and the school of 900 kids had about 10 Jewish kids enrolled. Funny, when I looked to see who was behind all this I found a handful of NON-practicing Jews who likely attend Temple once a year. At volunteer day I was set up to help students prepare & fry lechkes (potato pancakes) for Social Studies an we watched our kids sing a Dreidel, Dreidel, song and sing Hebrew words.

Then, during February, historically Presidents Month, the focus is completely Black History Studies. No choosing a President to research or fanfare for Washington or Lincoln studies. Our son selected Colin Powell and we purchased a book on Powell for him to compile his book report. His choice was disallowed on the grounds that Powell was a "political figure" and not historically signifigant. He was told to choose from The Famous Black American Placards that lined the hallways and included Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, etc. He settled on Olympian - Jackie Robinson. Lesson learned: Everyone should be forced to at least walk through a government school to witness the indoctrination American kids are being force fed.

Native Floridian here -- know the prelude but not the feeling!

The sun is shining
The grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway.
I've never seen such a day
In Beverly Hills LA.
But it's December the 24th
And I am longing to be up North.
