Documents Show Peril Annan Faced in U.N. Oil-for-Food Scandal
FOXNews.com ^ | 8 December 2005

Documents released Wednesday by the House International Relations Committee offer the first real glimpse at just how close Oil-for-Food investigators came to concluding Kofi Annan lied to them, a finding that would almost certainly have brought about the U.N. secretary-general's downfall.

The documents show a clear difference of opinion on Annan's testimony within the Oil-for-Food Inquiry Committee. Chairman Paul Volcker overruled the investigator who actually interviewed Annan. That investigator, Robert Parton, then resigned in protest.

The documents include a transcript of a March 8 meeting between Volcker and other members of his team at which time they discussed Annan's role in the Oil-for-Food scandal and how truthful Annan had been in his interviews with investigators.

According to the papers, asked if Annan lied, Volcker said: "Well, my general feeling about the report is that if you accuse him of lying, he is gone and I don't know if we have the evidence to make that accusation. But we have a lot of unexplained business. The facts will speak for themselves, but we can't conclude he lied. But other people may conclude that."

Parton is now prevented from talking publicly because Volcker and the United Nations obtained a seven-year injunction against him.

Why???

What is there to hide

Ooh, they came close to concluding he lied to them. Doesn't get more series than that.

Kofi's not much of a crook. He's more incompetent and dishonest than anything else.

In point of fact, he's an incompetent and "dishonest" crook.

"seven-year injunction" against Parton?

When the HE!! did that happen?

I did a google search and didn't find anything. Does any one know if this is just for public speech or does it include congessional sobpoena. Does it include the documents that he already turned over to Coleman's staff?

The documents show a clear difference of opinion on Annan's testimony within the Oil-for-Food Inquiry Committee. Chairman Paul Volcker overruled the investigator who actually interviewed Annan. That investigator, Robert Parton, then resigned in protest.

As I didn't recall seeing any news about the resignation of Robert Parton in protest I did a quick google and found this (dated April 30, 2005):

The Senate may force the testimony of a senior investigator who resigned from the independent committee probing the U.N. oil-for-food scandal because he considered an interim report too soft on Secretary-General Kofi Annan, a senator said Friday. The committee’s chairman, former Federal Reserve chief Paul Volcker, has been calling senators and congressmen, urging them not to subpoena the investigator, Robert Parton. Volcker has emphasized the confidentiality agreement in Parton’s contract and the U.N.-appointed committee’s diplomatic immunity, said Mike Holtzman, a spokesman for the Volcker committee.

So the fact is, Volker has pulled every string possible to DEFEND Annan. What a sham this investigation was when the head of the committee is doing his best to protect one of the culprits of the crime.

That's a whale of a closing sentence:

Parton is now prevented from talking publicly because Volcker and the United Nations obtained a seven-year injunction against him.

What court issued that injunction? Is the text of it available?

This is the biggest news story I heard all week, but of course 99% of the world will never hear it. Sunday morning shows will probably cover the ramblings of a deranged Pennsylvania politician.

I-N-S-I-D-E-R (not "in cider", inciter, or inside her). There is no difference between Paul Volker and the 9-11 Commission. Both are covering for their kind.

Of course the Rockefeller tentacles reached inside the U.N.--

John D. Rockefeller, Jr. donated the "low lying" land on which the UN was built in 1946. Wally Harrison, a long time Rockefeller connected architect, led its panel of architects.
Source: Daniel Okrent, Great Fortune, the Epic of Rockefeller Center (2003), pages 40, 150 - 152.

Once the investigation was neutered the Rockefeller's job seemed finished -- "It was reported that the other investigator to resign is the granddaughter of David Rockefeller and has now returned to her job at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund."

Kofi Annan- What a bum! He is the stupidest Secretary General of the UN. And the most Muslim oriented. I hope the next of the UN comes from a civilized nation, not some dump like Ghana. Not that Kofi and his Norwegian wife ever visit there. Kofi wants miles and oceans between him and that pit

We shouldn't give this bum one thin dime for the 1.5 billion he wants to renovate the UN building in New York
