Today, we watched the aftermath of a tragic event on national television. A man, who appeared somewhat deranged and irrational, was shot and killed by a Federal Air Marshall.
The man, who claimed to possess a bomb , was threatening his fellow passengers and causing much chaos in the area. Even though a witness ( the mans wife ) claimed he did not have a bomb and gave reason for the mans actions, the man was still shot dead by a Federal Air Marshall anyway.
Now that it has been proven the man did not have a bomb, and presented no real or imminent threat to himself or the passengers around him, it should now be considered that the Air Marshall acted in a premature and unreasonable manner and he should be charged with murder. The Air Marshall should be dragged before a court of law and put on trial for his horrendous actions.
The Air Marshall had no right to shoot this man without "complete and convincing evidence" he possed a threat to the people in his general area. Sure, the deranged man may have acted in threatening manner and scared the people around him, he may have made allegations he had a weapon that could cause great harm, but is that any reason to justify shooting him the way they did? There was simply not enough concrete evidence at the time of the shooting to prove the man actually had a bomb. His death is a tradegy, and we all should take a long hard look at the Air Marshall who pulled the trigger.
This is definitely a job for the ACLU. They need to investigate this obviously dangerous Air Marshall and find out if he has ever shown any tendencies to act prematurely under pressure, or if he has any bias feelings toward deranged people. If it can be found the Air Marshall didn`t like people with Bipolar Disorders, that would be absolute proof he is guilty of murder , or in the least it is proof he acting improperly and should be removed from his job.
This country should rise up, and let their voices be heard that we will not tolerate this kind of barbarity anymore. NO MORE VIOLENCE, NO MORE VIOLENCE!!!
####For those of you who have not figured it out by now , this is sarcasm. But it is sarcasm with a point to be made. If you cannot see the point, my appologies. But I don`t think it is hard to figure out.###
It is easy to play arm chair quarterback after the fact.
This was part of the point in my post.
Just as you probably did not take into account that when I wrote this little piece , information on this event was relatively spotty.
Do I feel bad for the man and his family? You bet I do. This was a tradegy, and what is happening now is a tradegy. People are using this mans death as a political tool to move their agenda forward.
So how do we avoid this type of event in the future?
How about anyone with any kind of mental problems or disorders should be required to present an airline with some medical history on their condition , and/or verify they have taken their medication , before boarding a flight. Although there will still be people who ignore any requirements like this , so it wouldn`t be fail-safe by any means.
If they did enact a requirement like this, the ACLU would fight it tooth and nail as well.
How about getting rid of all Air Marshals? But that isn`t going to happen either because people wouldn`t want to fly knowing they had no protection from a hijacker or terrorist.
So whats your solution? I don`t think I read that anywhere in your post.
I guess you also didn`t hear that when the man reached for his backpack the Air Marshal`s guns came out. Would you have rushed the guy with a gun pointed at him?
Or do you think the Air Marshal`s should have rushed him, probably going against what they were trained to do.
Its a tough deal, the man is dead. But it takes these kinds of things usually to change policy. But I don`t think the Air Marshal should be called a criminal as I have heard some do already in the media.
I was kind of joking when I wrote this, but it seems my feelings of what would happen were right.
Oh, please - nobody said any such thing and you know it.
But if you run screaming down the jet ramp talking about a bomb in your bag, you fail to stop when asked by a LEO, and then reach into your bag, yes, you should at least get shot.
Is it really that complicated?
Until it's time to pull the trigger, when they don't care anymore.
" Oh, please - nobody said any such thing and you know it."
Sorry but I tend to be a little sentimental.
"And what he said was far more insightful than all the other talk-show hosts...."
He called the shooting an "execution" today.
I like Michael Savage, I listen to him all the time , but I think he is pushing this one a bit too far.
Personally, I wouldn`t call it that myself. Unfortunate yes, an execution?.... No way.
Quote : "I don't think there is a solution. My only problem is that anyone who exhibits unusual behavior gets a gun pulled on them."
I don`t know when the guns were pulled, it may have been late into the incident. The best I have heard , the guns were pulled when the man went for his bag.
I am sure these Marshal`s are well trained and followed procedures for an incident like this. Time will tell if this was the case. Maybe they will need to make some changes after its all said and done.
Quote : "Would the same thing happen if an Autistic person did something weird while boarding a plane? This case tends to answer that question in the affirmative."
This is why I think people with medical conditions that may result in odd behavior should have to provide the airline with some kind of information about their condition. But the ACLU will no doubt try to squash that in the courts.
The airlines have cracked down on the people boarding planes who appear intoxicated because of previous incidences with drunks on planes. Maybe this needs to be looked into as well with mental health conditions?
The way I see it, this is a freak incident, very rare , and may even happen again one day. Its just going to be one of those risks people are going to have to put up with to keep airlines safe.
I don`t see a viable solution either.....
The best advice is that if you have a relative with a mental illness who looks like they are going to have an episode, skip the flight until they stabilize.
Better to stay in a hotel for the night than blow up in an airline terminal.
"The best advice is that if you have a relative with a mental illness who looks like they are going to have an episode, skip the flight until they stabilize."
This is exactly what happened in this case from the way it looks. The wife knew , from what has been stated in the MSM , the man didn`t take his medication but let him get on the flight anyway. She must feel horrible about it now.
And what if you are traveling alone and have a disorder like this?
Relying on people to do the right thing never works.
I bet they change regulations on how Air Marshal`s deal with this type of situation but don`t release this information to the public.
This is the only solution I can think of that would help prevent an incident like this from occuring in the future and would not give terrorists clues on how to use the policy change to their advantage.
