Racism cost lives, N.O. evacuees say

WASHINGTON -- Four African-American New Orleans residents told a House committee Tuesday that they felt a sense of abandonment from all levels of government when Hurricane Katrina hit three months ago and believe more lives and homes would have been saved had the victims been predominantly white and wealthier.

"People were allowed to die," said Leah Hodges, who told the panel she still doesn't know if her brother survived the hurricane. She likened what happened to New Orleans, and many of its black residents, to "genocide and ethnic cleansing."

The evacuation of the Superdome by helicopter was a thrilling, beautifully executed operation. How many stations show clips of this operation? I haven't seen any since the day it occurred.
I feel great sympathy for the people who lost loved ones and homes. Too bad the media and politicians insist on portraying Katrina survivors as a bunch of ungrateful whiners. This reaction has already done irreparable harm to New Orleans' chances of a revival any time soon.

"Politicians buying re-election with "feel good" offers of aid."

lol

Good quote. It must be nice to spend other peoples money for their own benefit. Even nicer when the feel good voters lap it up like starving dogs eating warm left overs.

[[Dyan French is the former head of the NO NACPP.]]

I watched some of this on CSPAN yesterday until I had to change the channel. It made we want to puke. "Mama D" as she calls herself is a certified lunatic. The inmates were definitely running the asylum during these hearings. She told the Chairperson that he better call the "POE LEECE" coz she wasn't going to shut up until she was finished. It's was pathetic that nobody had the balls to tell any of the kooks to STFU. This was a Barnum & Bailey freakshow to be sure.

Hey Diggrt48,
I never opened mine(treasure trove) for the NOLA whiney-hineys. I did however for Ms. and Al.

They need to STFU and leave America. Those idiots who cry racism every second contribute nothing, but only give hard working patriotic black Americans a bad rap, which they do not deserve.

As it appears, more downtroddened heros of the left wing loonies.

Hell can't they remember their great hero-zero Jimuh "peanut face" carter said,"Life is unfair."

With that said, the race card carrying crybabies need to G-A-F-ing-Life

The Tuesday broadcast network evening newscasts jumped on an inconsequential House hearing where five residents of New Orleans hurled charges that racism limited help after Hurricane Katrina. ABC actually led with the hearing as anchor Elizabeth Vargas teased: "The victims of Katrina tell Congress they're still not getting help because they are poor and black." Linda Douglass acknowledged believability was in question: "Members listened intently but were skeptical of some of the more extreme charges. Like this one, from [Dyan] French [Cole], who insisted someone deliberately flooded poor neighborhoods." She ludicrously alleged: "I have witnesses that they bombed the walls of the levee." CBS's Bob Schieffer championed Dyan French Cole, affectionately known to CBS News as "Mama D," as he described her as a "key witness" and reminded viewers that CBS's "John Roberts first reported on her from New Orleans right after the hurricane. And now Congress isn't likely to forget her, either. She gave them an earful today." CBS viewers won't have her most insidious charge to forget since in nearly an entire story devoted to her rants, Roberts avoided discrediting her by never mentioning her claim about how the levees were "bombed." NBC's Brian Williams touted "emotional testimony from Katrina survivors who insisted racism was a big factor in the government's slow response to the disaster."

-----Maybe it was because the smart ones had already left or prepared themselves. That is what TV's and radios are for. Someone explain to these people what the hell an evacuation is and if they value their lives and their familys' life, THEY WILL FIND A WAY. These are the "whiners" people refer to on these threads. People who will grandstand and just "poor poor pitiful me" it to death and make American taxpayers feel as they do. The ones I feel sorry for are the ones who are trying to repair their homes, rebuild their lives and are grouped in with these losers.

Standard N.O. "victim."

Didn't see that in LA after the earthquake (the riots were a different matter). Never see it in FLA when Hurricanes hit annually. Didn't see it when other cities flooded.

Only in the Democrat paradise that is NOLA.

New Orleans was a $hithole long before Katrina hit...they didn't seem to mind living in their "concentration camp" then!

Morning Digger48,
I myself would be very interested how she derived the levees were bombed?

Prudent Americans both black & white, know these POS are lying through their butts.

This is the DNC "Commie Manifesto" at work, to fan flames of racial inequality which is bogus.

It is a shame that the Repubs are such cowards to allow this B.S. to prosper or be televised.

It is people like these "domestic terrorists" that need to be deported from our country.

Cindy Sheehan would be included in the group, as well as all democrats&rinos in the congress and senate.

The bully will continue to pick on the cowardly at school, until someone fights back.

One freeper made a precise analytical assessment, (Ignorance-Laziness-Government Total Dependence) caused the loss of lives, by not evacuating from the NOLA cess-pool.

They need to adress the obvious, a retard for a mayor, governor and senator (landrieu)

They f----- up, and now want to blame someone for their utter incompetence and self-induced demise.

These malcontents are the drones of America, and never contribute anything valuable only decay-crime-death.

I do not owe those POS anything, and "stupid is as stupid does."

If those crybabies would "stop lyin and start tryin", then maybe they might become a productive citizen instead of a liablity on the government sugar-tit.

As I See It,

12 miles for an able bodied human over flat ground is roughly a 4 hour walk at average walking speed. Now I knwo many were not able bodied... and there is no doubt that government failed them... it is hard to simply blame the people when they were told go here and wait, we'll be right there... and of couse, they weren't right there.

The failure by the state and local governments in LA was utterly monumental..... I hope the people left in LA are finally willing to face the corruption and incompetence that has permiated that state for centuries... and throw them all out.

As a poster on another thread noted, even if you had to walk, 12 miles isn't that far.

NO is noted as the most obese city in the country! A bunch of fat, lazy asses! I doubt most could walk 12 yards!

I think all of this nonsense was about crossing the downtown bridge ... now, apparently, called the "Crescent City Connection" ...

The Mississippi River is one mile wide ... repeat ... one mile wide at that point.

They were prohibited from crossing the bridge at first ... and the day they crossed it they burned the major shopping center, Oakwood, on the other side of the river. No one had to walk twelve miles to save their own worthless hide ... but, I certainly would have walked twelve miles or more to save mine.
