DAYWATCH: A Weblog of today's developing news TUESDAY, Dec. 6, 2005, 9:17 p.m. State Senate passes concealed carry bill
The state Senate passed a bill tonight that would allow residents 21 and over to carry concealed guns if they passed a training course.
The measure passed 23-10 after five Democrats joined 18 Republicans in supporting the bill (SB 403). If that two-thirds majority holds, it would be strong enough to override a promised veto by Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.
The Assembly will likely take the bill up next Tuesday. It is expected to pass that house, but it is unclear whether two-thirds of the representatives will support it.
Doyle vetoed a similar measure in 2003. The Senate overrode that veto, but the Assembly came one vote short of doing so.

Welcome to the CC club, Wisconsin!
Not a done deal yet.

Don't forget to include those Republicans...I'm hearing some are weak in the knees!!!
One can hope.
PING!
The one vote short was an original sponsor of the bill. That was the rat Sherman, who went Machiavellian to support his prince Doyle.
what is the website that gives current reciprocity?
Keeping my fingers crossed. I think the Dems who went against this last time are looking at reelection next fall and will override "Diamond" Jim Doyle on the veto to curry favor with the gun owners. As if they would get the votes.
Still in all there have been times where I really wished I had had my Kel-Tec P3AT closer than the gun cabinet at home. The reciprocity agreements will make travel in other states more enjoyable too. Hope like hell they override.

Excerpt from "Cana-cerous!" by Dave Kopel in America's First Freedom, December 2005: The Canadian Liberals contend that the registry helps police know when they are entering a home (or are carrying concealed) that contains a firearm. But since violent criminals rarely register their guns (or get ccw permits), a prudent police officer must assume that any home (or car could contain an unregistered gun.
Do we really want to pattern our laws after Canadian Liberals?

The one Republican who didn't vote for the bill said we're too civilized to need concealed carry. Sen. Olsen argued that criminals use the element of surprise on their victims.
Got news for this senator: a perp will think twice about attacking someone, wondering if they're packing or not!
Hit the BANG list, please. Thank you.
And they need to hear from more women supporting this bill. Sen. Roessler said she was surprised by the number of women she's been hearing from who WANT this bill to be made law!! THAT is so great!!

P.S. Love your homepage! LOL!!!
Here's a clue Olson. You're criminalizing the victim's right to say, "surprise!"
"too civilized"
Damn bliss ninnies!
Hey, didn't he just call the other 46 states with concealed carry *uncivilized*??!
(Imitating the politically correct "offended" knee-jerk reaction...)
Just wanted to ping in case you didn't hear.AWB
