GOP Establishment Rallying Around RINO Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)
The Boston Globe ^ | December 5, 2005 | Rick Klein

Posted on 12/06/2005 5:19:59 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

But with the Republican Party's hold on the Senate looking tenuous, the party of Wall Street and the religious right is suddenly chummy with its most prominent environmentalist. With a tough race looming, and a solid conservative challenging Chafee in the primary, Republican elites are sending checks to Rhode Island -- to help Chafee.

And again in 1980 and 1984, when the country was no more conservative than it is today.

I don't know if you're in the mood, but: We have to get along with a large number of American citizens who disagree with the conservative agenda. I think that is one reason why so many of the men and women that we send to legislative and executive office, end up governing 'from the middle'. It's a reality that will not change.

I've come to point where the older I get, the more tolerant I become of the cooperative process as a necessary component of governance.

You young, firebrand conservatives, should continue to fight the good fight.

I find the older I get, the more disgusted I get as we sink into the third world because of gutless bitches who won't adhere to their oaths of office.

No tolerance for thieves, traitors or idiots.

Care to expound on why supporting RINO's strenghten our conservative cause [?]
>

No problem. And anyone with a tactical awareness already knows the answer.

It's like paying down debt. Your net worth increases every bit as much for debt reduction as for asset increase.

If you fail to support a RINO in a liberal state, you get a liberal Democrat from that state and once that Democrat is an incumbent, they will win re-election forever, gain seniority, committee seats and erode horribly any semblance of conservatism in legislation.

Debt reduction is as much an addition to net worth as asset addition. Keeping the Democrat out in a liberal state adds to conservatism every bit as much electing a more conservative Republican to a Republican state seat.

And people like Antoninus who only vote party, not principle.

As you admitted on a previous thread, you voted for Bush in 2004 after he "stabbed Toomey in the back." Some principles.

With you and the rest of the libertarian-types, its same sh!t, different day.

The Toomey race demonstrated, clearly, that Ricky is not to be trusted...that he's a slimy pol who will do anything to advance himself.

Santorum's now been endorsed by Toomey. Does that make Pat a "slimy pol" as well? If Toomey can put it behind him, why can't you? Answer: because you want Santorum out because his social conservative values conflict with your libertarian ideology.

That's all this is about.

I was for Toomey just to get Specter out of the Judiciary Chairmanship even though I knew Toomey couldn't win in a state like PA.

I was big-time for Toomey as well. I was disappointed when Bush and Santorum saved Specter's skin. However, I knew that Arlen was calling in favors, so in a political sense, I knew that Santorum and Bush were just doing what needed to be done to reflect party loyalty and field the strongest candidate ahead of a big election.

That said, there is simply no reason for a conservative to be against Rick Santorum. Those on this thread who are against him have admitted on previous threads that they are libertarians, not conservatives. That should tell you something.

I've already answered your question. YES.

I don't trust any of them any more. I will watch Pat as closely as I watch any other pol. He's obviously lost his moral compass.

Next stupid question.....

And another thing.

I DO NOT OPPOSE SANTORUM'S CONSERVATIVE AGENDA.

I only wish he truly had a conservative agenda. You ignore little facts like his endorsement of PRO-ABORTION ARLEN over Pat. You ignore his willingness to embrace socialistic solutions to social problems. You ignore his willingness to prostrate this country at the foot of Redistributionist Socialists like Kofi Annan. Can you deny that Ricky said this: "... We need to embrace the challenge to dedicate a larger percentage of our GDP to foreign aid, while encouraging more international trade with developing countries. History will judge us not by what we say but what we do.

Yes, this agenda will require a role for government that some conservatives find disquieting. But that is a discomfort worth confronting..."

Get a grip son. He's not the principled conservative he pretends to be.

Just words. No mechanism exists to do a damn thing about Kennedy, Leahy, Reid, Pelosi, Durban...the list goes on...

The mechanism exists. It's simply not time yet.

A few more turns of the screw.

Dittos on that. In years past, I went along with the LoTE theory, but I now realize that evil is just that - EVIL - and I will not do it anymore. Bush in 2004 was my last such vote. The only place that I agree with him is on the war in Iraq.

I agree with libertyman that our interventionism has led to problems. It may have been with the best of intentions, but we were entangled in places that we should not have been. You don't need to be isolated from the world, just not entangled in their affairs. Our Founders warned us of that 225 years ago. I guess that we got too smart for our own good.

Domestically, he has been atrocious for liberty loving people. I am 100% pro life, but there is more to being conservative than being pro life. The government is to guard the liberty of it's citizens, but Bush has been too willing to follow Clinton's dictum that we are too free and must be reigned in. As government grows, it seeks merely to serve and protect itself and not abide by their oath of office. That's inexcusable and makes them unworthy of my vote.

Idealism is a good thing. Now how do we get our 'idealism' past our political enemies and their supporters, and into action, into governance?

By the time a Third party movement can gain momentum and wide support, the creeps at DNC will have eaten our lunch.

One has to vote for the only candidate who holds at lest some of our values, and (here's the important part) can get elected.
