WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House criticized Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean on Tuesday for saying it is wrong to think the United States will win in Iraq, saying he was sending the wrong message to U.S. troops.
Dean told San Antonio, Texas, radio station WOAI that "the idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong."
He predicted the Democratic Party would come together on a proposal to withdraw National Guard and Reserve troops immediately, and all U.S. forces within two years.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said President George W. Bush is "focused on our plan for victory," and will give the second in a series of speeches on Wednesday about the way forward in Iraq looking ahead to December 15 elections.
Is anyone else getting tired of this retort? I want someone in the administration to take these people straight on and accuse them of what is really happening - treason.
This is the first I've heard about this proposal. Has anyone else heard about this? It's insane -- pretty much what I expect from the pro-terrorist, hate-America left.
.....And then were gonna go to washington D.C. and take back the white house, yhaaaaaaa!!!!!
I agree McClellan could stand to be a bit more forceful in his remarks. However, I thought it was good of him to say that Dean should "explain" what he means. It puts the onus back on him.
Nobody is going to use the "treason" word.
He said it...I think that the White House finally get's 'a little bit of it.' They need to yell a forceful denouncement to everything the Demos are saying that is not based on fact.
"Is anyone else getting tired of this retort? I want someone in the administration to take these people straight on and accuse them of what is really happening - treason."
Well, this isn't treason but this would be a good time for President Bush to have a powerful and confident spokesman who doesn't mince words, in other words a different spokesman.
Hey, given the fact they used to let this pass without comment I'm happy they are responding now.
Wednesday speech? Good. I'll be able to be here for that one.
I agree that Democrat rhetoric has long since passed "loyal opposition" and is almost bordering on, if it has not actually crossed over into, the treasonous. But you know what would happen if Bush used the "T" word: there would be squeals about "suppression of opposing points of view" and "Fascism!" and "implementation of a monolithic hegemonic militaristic political agenda" and the like, and having to respond to such charges is just too damn boring.
Then again, I suppose Dean's endorsement of Code Pink is rather treasonous at that.
Let''s not just slam his comments...slam him--with the heaviest college textbook you can find!!
I will.
Howard Dean and John Kerry are TRAITORS!
Scott McClelland ... without question is one of the poorest excuses for a press secretary in recent memory. Didi Myers, Clinton's first press secretary, in comparison, looks pretty good in retrospect.
"Sending the wrong message to the troops" -Bush's reply
"This type of talk shows what spineless wimps that are in leadership of the Democratic party... they should explain what they mean by that and apologize to the troops for minimizing their effort." -Smith288's reply
I haven't hear the proposal to withdraw Guard and reserve troops. Seems like a horrible idea -- for one thing, certain key specialties (like Civil Affairs soldiers) exist almost solely in the reserve components.
McClellan needs to say that Dean is "giving aid and comfort to the enemy." Let the MSM mention the T word, which they surely will after that.
We want Ari! We want Ari! We want Ari! We want Ari! We want Ari!
Yes. I have no idea why that guy was chosen in the first place. He cannot handle it.
bring back Marlon Fitzwater
