'Narnia represents everything that is most hateful about religion'

Aslan the lion shakes his mighty mane and roars out across Narnia and eternity. Christ is risen! However, not many British children these days will get the message. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe opens this week to take up the mantle left by The Lord of the Rings. CS Lewis's seven children's books, The Chronicles of Narnia, will be with us now and for many Christmases to come.
.... US born-agains are using the movie. .... children may puzzle over the lion and ask embarrassing questions. .... The sins of this "son of Adam" can only be redeemed by the supreme sacrifice of Aslan.... Of all the elements of Christianity, the most repugnant is the notion of the Christ who took our sins upon himself and sacrificed his body in agony to save our souls. Did we ask him to?....

Don't worry, Polly. You don't ever have to meet Aslan, if you really, really never ever want to.
No guarentees you'll like that, tho.

And the books have been around for years with the exact same content. Why did she wait until they made a movie before running her mouth?

The Guardian just reviewed the film at 5 stars! Internal conflict? The real problem for them is they know it will be a success both critically and financially.

Polly represents everything that is most hateful about what passes for journalism these days--she's smug, arrogant, and dripping with vitriolic intolerance for Christianity.
To: Appalled but Not Surprised
Of all the elements of Christianity, the most repugnant is the notion of the Christ who took our sins upon himself and sacrificed his body in agony to save our souls. Did we ask him to? I know some "Christians" who find this notion disturbing too. What really bothers them, of course, is not the part about Christ's sacrifice or his agony--about which they are indifferent. Nope, the problem here is the notion that Christ died for our SINS. These people are without sin. As are contemporary Brits generally.

Any chance to attack a religion based on morals and tolerance. When one sees something that one chooses not to understand, they attack it with all their might.
I am neither a christian nor religious, but I will allow my daughter to watch this wonderful classic, as it is a testament to our culture and humanity.
