They said the round would be great for tankers confronted by massed enemy troops...
While that isn't that likely, it is nice to have in the arsenal.

New? Unique?
Maybe in 1862,
Everything old is new again.

Remember the Canister Scenes in the movie Gettysberg when the Confederates got near the Union lines Pickett's Charge? Just Damn.

Is this similar to the fleshette round used in VN? Loaded with thousands of small metal darts.
To: 68skylark
About time! The lack of these really detracted from the ability to service many types of targets.

If my memory serves, we used a 105mm round in Vietnam called a Beehive round that was effectively used against wire breeches during the Tet Offensive.

This weapon, in principle known to Napoleon, has been the topic of several threads over the past year.

It's basically a 60s style "beehive" round for the 120 main gun there's nothing new about the design just the caliber. Now if they'll bring back the 40mm shot shell for the M203 we'll be in business.

Hm. Let's see; a shotgun gauge is the number of lead balls the diameter of the gun's barrel that it takes to weigh 1 lb. Lead is 11340 Kg/m3. This cannon is 120 mm in diameter. My math says that this is a .023 ga. shotgun.

The next time a bunch of tracksuit-wearing ski-masked AK-wielding idjits decide to dance in the street in Ramadi, how I do wish Mr. Abrams would come around the corner right about then and send one of these right down Main Street. You'd never see THAT on the evening news. (And in fairness, it'd be pretty hard to eat your hamburger steak after seeing what that would do to somebody.)
I love it. It's like Raid for jihadis. Kills bugs dead.
