Pregnant cop spots bomber Matthew Gutman and jpost staff, THE JERUSALEM POST Dec. 5, 2005
Before detonating the bomb he was carrying, the suicide bomber looked First Sergeant Major Shoshi Atiya straight in the eye.
Atiya was on patrol near the mall when a citizen alerted her of a suspicious looking man with an Arab appearance.
"He was not far from the entrance to the mall, looking at it, with his left hand in a bag," Atiya told Channel 1.
"I started following him, and when he noticed me he picked up his pace; so did I. When he approached the entrance, I shouted 'bomber, bomber,' and called on security guards to grab him," she recalled.
According to Atiya, "One of the guards held him and led him away while I ran to them. I decided that no matter what, I would take his hand out of the bag. When I finally reached him, he looked me in the eyes and triggered the bomb."
Both Atiya and her unborn baby are expected to recover fully.
The force of the blast that wounded her punched holes in the granite facade of the mall. It blew shards of glass 50 yards across Netanya's boulevard and onto the Magistrate's Court across the street.
Israel's CSI officers combed the scene for two hours after the bombing, trying to find shreds of evidence. But the devastation itself was evident to hundreds of bystanders that flocked to the scene.
A resident of the city, Dudi Butibika, 19, claimed he saw several security officers corner the bomber prior to the attack. He noticed a bit of tumult out of the corner of his eye, but did not pay much attention.
Butibika said he saw a patrol car come from the central bus station, and officers emerge, but then he turned away. The next thing he knew, the bomber blew up.
"It was a massive a boom. I thought my heart was going to stop." He noted a car up in flames and bodies on the ground.
"I didn't know what to do," the teen lamented.
Blood was spattered on the walls as far as thirty meters away. The mall closed down immediately.
However, Dudi said he plans to return to the mall when it reopens, "because there is no other place for us to go to shop." He explained that he has now been within earshot of four suicide bombings in Netanya over the past four years.
Other bystanders concurred that they too had become accustomed to such sights.
Sounds to me like the pregnant Israeli cop's guardian angel was working overtime.
Thank the Lord for that.
Early report, I guess. Thank God the cop and her baby are OK (at least I hope they are OK). It doesn't say if anyone was killed.
I hope the bomber went to meet his Maker (who will not prove to be Allah).
But a pregnant cop who chases down a suicide bomber -- WOW! That goes against a lot of biological programming. Very brave.
I thought surrendering land to the Palestinians was going to put an end to all the violence??? /sarc
Ping.
As I read the report again, I speculate that the main force of the bomb was in front of the perp, and that Atiya may have been standing behind him when she reached to pull out his hand. Maybe he was looking over his shoulder if, as it says, he looked at her at the last minute.
It would be wonderful justice if the perpetrator's body shielded her and her baby from the blast.
Madre Mio!!! Her Worker's Comp (or whatever health plans Israeli guard have) is gotta be the size of Warren Buffett's portfolio.
Now that is Bravery! Baby will be proud of it's momma
Most likely she was shielded by the security guards- who, also heroes, were killed.

Heroic.
..................
Course he deserved a .357, but I assume you can't just shoot people you think might be bombers, even in Israel.
Should have armed her with a pistol so she could have shot him between the eyes.
PRAYERS!!!!
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
This young lady is a true heroine! May the Lord grant her and her baby no ill effects and full health!
I think she was more "manly" than a million Arab Jihadists...what mental "brass pair" she's got!
I'm pretty sure that she was carrying an assault weapon that could have blown his freaking head clean off.
Actually, a hollow point pistol round is MUCH more effective at close range. The AW round would have just zipped through and done little damage while the HP would expand and take a great deal of his tiny mind out the back of his head with it as it exits.
