He's a mystery in a red beard, with a strange alias and a degree in chemical engineering. In the hands of this alleged al-Qaida operative, it's a specialty that summons visions of poison gas and mass terror.

Al-Qaida is "wedded to the spectacular," notes U.S. counterterrorism analyst Donald Van Duyn, and elusive Egyptian chemist Midhat Mursi was said to be exploring such possibilities when last seen, brewing up deadly compounds and gassing dogs in Afghanistan.

Van Duyn's FBI and other U.S. agencies are interested enough in Mursi to have posted a $5 million reward this year for his capture...

Don't. Chemical weapons are the least "threatful" of the three "weapons of mass destructions" type. It's HARD to get chemicals properly dispersed in high enough concentrations to kill thousands of people. Bioweapons, OTOH, can easily do so, because they spread themselves. "Dirty nukes" are in similar category to chemical weapons, but "blast nukes" again are really deadly

The Bush critics have a couple of predictable tactics:

First they take any new evidence of a threat as scaremongering and blame Bush for inventing a bogeyman.

Then if anything actually happens, they will blame Bush for not doing enough to prevent it.

So either way, Bush suffers in the polls, but at least if we keep hunting down bogeymen, maybe we'll get the real ones and Bad Things won't happen.

Agreed, the libs are so tied in a knot from being out of power, they are showing
their true beliefs. With the CIA operating covert information extraction
sites in and around Europe, to all the other claims that we are torturing prisoners
