How many posts will it take until the Bushbots and party-uber-alles RINO enablers start attacking Tony Snow? I say, within the first 20 responses.Looks like it only took 14 posts. You win the big cee-gar!

The only thing i disagree with is the title, Repulicanism is not in decline. More people in the United States identifiy with the Republicans than at any time in the last 60 years. Its our leaders that are in decline.

Tony is dead on. The GOP's symbol should be changed from the elephant to the fetal position because even in instances when they are right they back away from their stance in order to "sway" or not "upset" someone. It is sickening that George Voinovich, Olympia Snow Job, Chris Shays, Lincoln Chafee and Jim Kolbe represent the GOP. Why can't conservatives make their own party? (C) would look better than (R). Don't you think?
To: governsleastgovernsbest
The GOP is getting hurt because Conservatives are always getting stabbed in the back by a RINO Hagel, Voinovich, Chafee, Snowe, Collins...who care more about getting favorable write ups in the NY Times than they do principle.

Tony stepped into the telephone booth, tore off the spectacles and tie, and emerged as SUPERMAN!
Way to go, Tony!

Winning elections is not about being bullies, it's about persuasion. I'm tired of having to settle for the lesser of the evils just because the Republican Party lacks the leadership skills to LEAD people. Instead, the Republicans keep moving leftwards instead of LEADING the nation to the right. Today's Republicans in Congress are no different from the Democrats of 20 years ago. Yes, the Democrats have slid further leftward, but that is no excuse for the Republican Party to abandon its principles and slide leftward with them. The fish rots from the head. The Republican Party is rotten at the leadership level in the RNC. How long are we going to tolerate having the party run by people who ignore the party platform and who supports candidates whose views are counter to the traditional values of the Republican Party?

Oh the French wing of the GOP isn't going to like this one, but someone needed to speak the truth. Capitualtion for the sake of incumbency is not leadership.

I think it should be a pledge to carry the Republican agenda forward in order to obtain the 'R' endorsement. It should then be mandatory to strip the endorsement from an incumbent if they fail to do so.

Tony Snow gets it.
A lot of FReepers get it.
Others are still trying to justify and maintain the same failed big government 'solutions' by throwing even more money at them and giving them a new name.
It's as though they think that lipstick on a pig transforms the pig when all it does is waste the lipstick.

You know, when we got rid of Lott, I thought we were really going to get tough. I saw Lott as being forced to step down by his own party so we could get someone tougher and stronger. I was wrong.

I really agree with Tony here. It's a really bad situation because voting these RINOs out means voting DemonRats or 3rd party weirdos in. The only reason the Republican party is even surviving is because they are the lesser of two evils.
It's time to get some good Repub challengers in there in kick these RINOs to the curb!
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Love the article. Though it seems to imply that the RINOs pander to the left out of cowardice or greed.
RINOs pander to the left because they are the left.

If you really want to build lasting power in politics, you need to forget about mere incumbency -- and remember the principles that got you elected in the first place.Yeah, you hear that, Specter? DeWine? Frist?

To be fair, it is a little from column A and a little from column B.
When George Allen suggested the President meet with Cindy Sheehan and voted for Warner's anti-american resolution on the Iraq war, he became the latest conservative to hold wet his finger and hold it up in the breeze.

You know, when we got rid of Lott, I thought we were really going to get tough. I saw Lott as being forced to step down by his own party so we could get someone tougher and stronger. I was wrong. Lott is not a racist. Lott said nothing wrong. The fact that the Republican Party leadership "cut and run" from this battle is a key indicator of what cowards they really are. Not that I liked Lott, he was a spineless wimp too. I, like you, hoped that he would have been replaced by someone with more of a spine. And I guess Hastert does, but not by much.
