Knee-jerk?
Puh-lease. We've been good little foot soldiers...elected Pubbies to the majority...sat back and patiently waited while they promised us that as soon as they got enough of a majority, they'd start acting like real conservatives. BOLOGNA.
This 'knee-jerk' reaction has been ten years in the making. Time to throw the spineless, nut-less, limp-wristed girly men into the street.
To: prairiebreeze
There's no baby in the bath water. The spineless, gut-less, nut-less pubbies are as bad as the dims. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING disciplines a pol or a party like an ouster. The party needs to be taken to the woodshed and I predict they won't be sitting down anytime soon after the November 2006 election results are posted.

Send them two appropriately sized stones or nuts. They'll get the message.

CG, you stole my thunder-exactly! And those that are satisfied with anyone that pretends to be an "R" are destined to drag themselves and the party back into the minority.

Tpny SNow is dead=on.
The Repubs in COngress have betrayed the trust of the their constituents, the heritage of Reagan and Gingrich, and have turned into a mass of spineless, gutless, castrated freaks.
Its time for a Third Party - a party which espouses the rhetoric of the Republicans, but is willing to deliver instead of pandering to the media, the leftists, the anti-Judaeo-Christians, the illegal aliens, and the exploiters of cheap illegal labor.

The name of the party is: "POR", Party of Reagan
The current crop of geldings called Republicans have abandoned the Buckley, Reagan, Gingrich, Friedman, Laffer, Forbes, and Kudlow Model.
I for one am ready for a new home....

Hey Tony after 5 years, it seems that you had an inexplicable Damascus experience. Perhaps you meant to write 'Conservatism in decline' or the 'Ascendancy of neo-conservatism'. Keep healthy.

When House Speaker Denny Hastert broke arms to secure votes for a pork-packed highway bill, calling the legislation a "jobs bill," it was an embarrassment. When the president signed a campaign-finance bill he called unconstitutional, he seemed to lack not only conviction, but vision. That, plus Bush Jr.'s ramming through a trillion-dollar waste of taxpayer money on his "free" pill vote-buying scam for greedy geezers, pretty much sums it all up.
The Republican Party is done, and must go, for America to survive as it was intended. They can take the FR daily picture-licking-thread embarrassment with them. Politician-worship is not a hallmark of a freedom-loving people.
