WASHINGTON (AP) -- An advertising company that gives most of its political donations to Republicans blocked the Democratic National Committee from putting up billboards criticizing GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt of Ohio.
Lamar Advertising Co. of Baton Rouge, La., refused to put up two billboards in Portsmouth, Ohio, and another in Cincinnati with a picture of Schmidt and the following message: "Shame on you, Jean Schmidt: Stop attacking veterans. Keep your eye on the ball - we need a real plan for Iraq."
The billboards are the result of 7,000 donations, DNC executive director Tom McMahon said, after Schmidt attacked Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha, a Democrat and Marine veteran, for his call for withdrawal from Iraq. Schmidt was booed off the House floor two weeks ago when she said "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
She has since apologized.
Lamar's Huntington, W.Va., regional manager, Mark Watts, rejected the billboards criticizing Scmidt as a personal attack, said Hal Kinshaw, Lamar's vice president of governmental affairs.
Kilshaw said Lamar doesn't do many billboards for either Republicans or Democrats, but the company does have a political action committee that contributes to candidates. In 2004 elections, it gave Republicans 70 percent of its U.S. House race donations and 60 percent of its U.S. Senate race contributions.
The DNC says it went to Lamar because it controls the market in the area but is looking for other options
She's not attacking veterans, she's attacking a lilly-livered politician who is endangering the troops to protect his phony baloney job.
Hehehehehe.:-)
You hear that Murtha? Don't let Nancy's Knockers make you "take your eye off the ball" and go over to the Dark Side!
The democrats are so vile. Why would anyone ever be a democrat. They are so pathetic. Barf.
Because the evil, the stupid, and the mentally ill have to have a party of their own.
Demon-crats are liars, bullies, and cowards. Period.
And don't forget the just plain intellectually lazy and dishonest.
"And don't forget the just plain intellectually lazy and dishonest."
That kinda falls under the aegis of evil and stupid. ;-)
Let the Democrats spend as much money as they want attacking Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. All that will do is (i) remind people of how they started saying that we should cut and run from Iraq but then voted against it on the House floor and (ii) take money away from races that the Democrats actually have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Congresswoman Schmidt will coast to reelection, unless she is defeated in the GOP primary (and whoever wins the GOP primary will win the general); the 2nd CD is overwhelmingly Republican, and the 2006 election will not have the anemic turnout of this year's special election that made the race uncomfortably close.
Let's not forget, too, that the twit 'Rat Hackett that took her on doesn't even have the cajones to seek a rematch.
You have inflicted an emotional scar of unimaginable proportions upon me.............
yyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
you are now removed from my Christmas Card list.
LVM
Lamar has some sense. They also wouldn't let the LGBT advocacy group (the name escapes me) put up billboards in south Georgia promoting the gay lifestyle as they had done in Atlanta. The ads consisted of a group of people dressed in occupational garb (ie police, nurses, doctors, etc. NOT Frank N. Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show) with a tagline saying that they are in your community providing a positive influence.
I'm sure Lamar knows that several farmers down here know how to operate a cutting torch, or might throw Lamar off their land.
I don't know about that ... my parents are libs and so is my ex. I love all of them to death. I wouldn't call them "evil" or "stupid" ... just intellectually dishonest and lazy ... and maybe even pathetically naive.
Good for this company standing tall.
You're kinder than I am. I went to visit my Uncle in New Mexico, an Air Force vet who served during Vietnam (and, sadly, an ultraleftist). I had to listen to him drop f-bombs all over the place regarding Reagan, Dubya, Rumsfeld and the like. After he was done with his schtick and pontificating on how we've messed up the Middle East, I asked him point blank... "So, what's your solution ?" His answer, "I dunno." I think the "stupid" fits.
Sorry LVM. LOL!! Mental pictures can really do a lot of damage. I know.
I'm sure MSNBC and CNN would give them free time for this crap. Don't let Jean be Newtered for speaking the truth!
