Former ambassador speaks on Iraq, CIA leak investigation
In a talk sponsored by the Northeastern College Democrats at Blackman Auditorium Nov. 21, Wilson laid out the story of how he had gone from being a relatively anonymous state department official to "Valerie Plame's husband," sparing few from potent verbal attacks along the way.
He was able to provide the audience with a full account of the trip to Niger he called the reason for his character assassination and, as a "side issue," his reaction to the outing of his wife's identity as a spy with the CIA. Wilson, a former ambassador to several African nations and to Baghdad during the 1991 Gulf War.
"It was a much harder road than [the Bush administration] thought it would be," he said. "Was there anyone who knew better than me? Probably not." He referred to the Iraqis as "assholes," and Saddam Hussein as a "madman."
He added he received support for this view from former President George H.W. Bush and former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft.
After he began to publicize his views, he said other pro-war policy makers engaged in character denigration, setting the backdrop by which he claimed his wife's identity was revealed. He said he was accused of being racist, among other charges, during the debate.
"My wife was the first American spy to have her identity compromised by the American government," he said.
He also had harsh words for Novak, calling him an "asshole" and a "jerk."
"When I found out , I was on the second floor of my house," he said. "If Bob Novak had been in the room, he wouldn't have been on the second floor for long."

Where did you hear/read that Nivak will again testify??
Hmmmm...their little plot is backfiring on them, maybe?
A HUGE AMEN to that!!!!!
More "literary flair" from Joe Wilson.
Wow. It was an arranged marriage? Uhhhh...does he consider it a promotion or a demotion?
She was a spy? What was she? An undercover travel agent?
LOL
According to an op-ed Joe Wilson wrote for the LA Times on Oct. 29, it was Valerie Plame herself who had her identity compromised by the American government.
Wilson wrote, " Between us, Valerie and I have served the United States for nearly 43 years. I was President George H.W. Bush's acting ambassador to Iraq in the run-up to the Persian Gulf War, and I served as ambassador to two African nations for him and President Clinton. Valerie worked undercover for the CIA in several overseas assignments and in areas related to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.
But on July 14, 2003, our lives were irrevocably changed. That was the day columnist Robert Novak identified Valerie as an operative, divulging a secret that had been known only to me, her parents and her brother.
So, unless Valerie's parents and siblings had top secret clearance, she compromised her own identity long before Bob Novak did.
Damn details.

Joe was ACTING ambassador to Iraq for ONE DAY while the ambassador was away.
Brilliant...LOL
My money is still on Novak. He'd pimp-slap Wilson with Wilson's own toupee.
If I'm wrong that it was Novak, pleeeeze correct me.
Eh? In what way was your wife a "spy" Joe?
This guy lives his life in fictional novels.
well I 'd be pretty Po'ed too if someone called me a bunch of apersans and numbers
Joe must be high as a kite wondering what Novak AND Woodward will/have revealed to the Special Prosecutor. Where are all his BIG Dem buddies at these little affairs? Bet he has to do these for "pro bono" to keep him self alive!! Yeh, the Dems probably still pay his expenses.
Novak reminds me of my dad....Doesn't say much....but you know he was thinking "gotcha". Tough punishment that saying nothing.
"If Bob Novak had been in the room, he wouldn't have been on the second floor for long."
Ooooohhhh. What a man; what a man. Shut your fat mouth and go get a job.
Look at how long the media stuck with the truly demented Cindy Sheehan. The trick is, cover for them, and make them look less loony than they are.
Weren't one or both of them married at the time these two began their affair?
"But on July 14, 2003, our lives were irrevocably changed. That was the day columnist Robert Novak identified Valerie as an operative, divulging a secret that had been known only to me, her parents and her brother"
Yet the Pincus family had a nice 4th of July Barbeque at the Wilson home just ten days earlier! I would love to know how Valerie sidestepped the issue of her employment?
Why the hell isn't Stincus on the stand?!!!!
