And yet another reason why I'm an EX-Catholic.
Nobody deserves paradise except through the merits of Christ.
"And yet another reason why I'm an EX-Catholic."
Yippeee!
The Church would do well to drop the concept of papal infallibility next. Amazing how that lingers in official doctrine, no matter how many pronouncements of various past popes get neutralized.
The Church is now realizing the error of their ways in regards to this. So you might be glad, even as an ex-Catholic, to know that. Every time I look the Church is fixing itself in various ways (click here, for example).
I can only say Hooray! and Praise God!
So, let me get this straight....If "limbo" is dropped from Catholic theology, that means that the Catholic Church has been in error about this teaching for some 7+ centuries....Which prompts the question: what else does the church teach that's in error?
What so many people don't understand is that:
(1) limbo was never a "dogma," it was a speculation about a question that didn't seem to have a definitive answer. It was some theologians' way of saying, "Well, God is just, and this is what we think could be a just solution: eternal natural happiness of the innocent children."
(2) It implied no pain or punishment, but an eternal fulfillment of the childrens' natural capacities for satisfaction.
The idea was, they can't endure the Beatific Vision because they haven't been "born again," but simply as beings possessing a human nature, they could enjoy an eternity of natural joys.
It's a speculative idea, but not a bad idea.
It doesn't seem like anything to leave the Church about--- not if you understand that the Church was founded by Christ as a key part of His salvation plan for you and for the whole world.
I wonder if God still hears the crying of all the kiddies he killed in the flood.
Once a Catholic always a Catholic. You can come back at any time. You are always welcome.
Im not catholic but I agree not one man save Christ deserves Paradise!
