Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:
We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."
Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!
As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.
George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.
I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.
Great tag line.
Entering LEGALLY, and buying the appropriate Canadian fishing license, and observing their catch limits. Yes. But Flouting any of the above, particularly the entrance issue...entitles the violator to absolutely no such sense of "right". And in fact, a quick trip to the Hoose-gow, escorted by the Mounties.
Great Post...
You put into word what I have been thinking and sensing since Bush began to show his true colors.
Thank You
Two words: SLEEPER CELLS....
I'm reading and watching in amazement your utter ignorance. Those three aren't trial lawyers. There are differences between lawyers and that is why I always preface that with "trial lawyers", but you probably already knew that.
Your ignorance is appalling.
The vast majority of illegal aliens in this country do not work under the table. Rather they get taxed and have insurance paid on them. Because they have authentic looking yet fake documentation, they are ostensibly free to engage in work for an employer, but have no claim to the taxes levied against them.
The Federal and State Governments love 'legal' looking 'illegal aliens'. Its pure money in their trusts and coffers.
Wake up and smell the roses...they smell like crap.
I speak from years and years of experience in the field of construction. I know exactly how the system works.
1)The government makes it illegal to hire illegals yet does nothing about it.
2)The illegals provide their employers with excellent forged documents, and the government has no mechanism to check the authenticity of those documents.
3)The worker works, the employer pays.
4)When it comes time for the employee to file his tax returns he either a) doesn't or b)does in hopes his fake ID will slip through the cracks.
The former is far more prevalent than the latter. The employee does not file, the corrupt government system only x-checks the ssn with the name if and only if the claimant has filed, the government pockets all the cash, the employee gets to keep his job, and finally the employer keeps paying into the corrupt and broken system, and in effect is party to a crime where all the participants are guilty.P> You haven't foggiest notion of what is going on with illegal immigration and political power and corrupt bureaucratic systems in this regard.
THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN: BUSH KNOWS IT, THE DEMS KNOW IT, THE PUBBIES KNOW IT, THE BUREAUCRATS KNOW IT, THE ILLEGALS KNOW IT.
It will never be fixed by people who benefity from its broken state...and further ignorance will only exacerbate it.
I agree with Boortz -- Bush needs to quit trying to appease the Hispanic voting bloc and deal with the pourous border.
And contrary to the whiners here, that is not a matter of bashing Bush, but it is a matter of disagreeing with him.
Ah, but I forgot, how dare anyone disagree with the great and all-powerful Bush.
(Just don't mind that little man behind the curtain...)
I've always stated that the current border situation is a mess, I just don't beleive in the knee jerk replies of house to house roundups or mines along the border. I can't help it if some people don't have the knowledge that this problem wasn't born overnight and will not be solved overnight.
LOL...isnt that the truth?
Have you also noticed one of the standard Bush Bot rants to one another is: There are way to many trolls on here posing as 'Conservatives'.
What a crock.
Bush leaves miles to be desired on the journy back from the social and political hell Clinton led us to.
Message to BushBots -> Bush is not God. He is just another politician with an R next to his name. If the border doesn't prove it to you, you must be blinded by his light.
Message to Bush critics-> Yeah he isn't God and the border situation is not going to be solved overnight and what would hillary or the democrats do?
The same thing, though with a different agenda yet with the same effect.
The border is a symptom or indication of a much broader problem. A problem that Bush is part of and complicit in perpetuating. The system is broken and I believe beyond repair. Every player in it benefits from its broken state.
That is the criticism of Bush and all those who are part of the politburo.
The endless defense of the indefensible I grow weary of, today and finally.

Fine leave and drop out from the political debate, it is so much easier to be a perisitant crank isn't it.
AnPlease point to the person in this thread who recommended house to house roundups or mines along the border. Can't? Then what you're doing is akin to lying.
I can't help it if some people don't have the knowledge that this problem wasn't born overnight and will not be solved overnight.
In 2002, the Bush Administration fined a grand total of 13 employers for employing illegal aliens. That was 3 years ago. In 2003 the number got up to 124. When you compare that to the millions of such violations per year, you get a statistical zero on enforcement. No one is asking that the problem be solved overnight, we're only asking for some real attempt at solving it. We want real results on enforcing the border first and then carefully, and in a very limited fashion, allowing "guest workers" to return.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Well you aren't going to get results with rants of "impeach jorge", Senators Kyl and Cornyn know this, unfortunately loud mouth tancredo does not.
And a guest worker program would get the people already here documented and once that is done it is much easier to go after future violators and also easier to push for more enforcement along the border.
BTW, if you haven't seen some of the posts calling for mass roundups or mines along the border you must be illiterate and "impeach jorge" is one of the keywords of this thread.
LOL!!!!!!!
Please point to where Rep. Tom Tancredo has said, "impeach jorge." Can't? Liar, again.

Reward the lawbreakers? No thanks. And why would they obey a new law if they have no respect for our other laws. We already have guest workers programs that they refuse to participate in. Only an idiot believes that they'll suddenly get in line.
BTW, if you haven't seen some of the posts calling for mass roundups or mines along the border you must be illiterate and
I asked you to point to the posts calling for house to house roundups and mines on the border in this thread as you implied with your comment. You couldn't. You're a liar. But this would not be the first time.
"impeach jorge" is one of the keywords of this thread.
So is "daneisanassclown", but what difference does that make? People are angry at President Bush for his dereliction of duty when it comes to enforcing our borders and immigration laws. They're similarly angry with quislings like you who defend that dereliction.
There ya go again, trying to get "miss congeniality" awards!
Typical Clintonite. All depends on what "is" means, eh?
