cannot say enough about the U.S. Army and Marines who are carrying most of the fight for us in Iraq. They are courageous, smart, effective, innovative, very honorable and very proud. After a Thanksgiving meal with a great group of Marines at Camp Fallujah in western Iraq, I asked their commander whether the morale of his troops had been hurt by the growing public dissent in America over the war in Iraq. His answer was insightful, instructive and inspirational: "I would guess that if the opposition and division at home go on a lot longer and get a lot deeper it might have some effect, but, Senator, my Marines are motivated by their devotion to each other and the cause, not by political debates." Thank you, General. That is a powerful, needed message for the rest of America and its political leadership at this critical moment in our nation's history. Semper Fi.
Mr. Lieberman is a Democratic senator from Connecticut.

What was Al Gore thinking picking Lieberman as a VP? Joe Lieberman makes far too much sense.

Joe's great words are even more significant in light of the fact that the Democrats have been working to hammer out an "official position" on the war, one that all Senators and Congressmen would be obliged to support. I think Lieberman is sending their efforts a message.

Hey, nobody is perfect! :^)
We can use any allies we can get. If Dershovitz is clear against terrorism, and Christopher Hitchens is more eloquent on Iraq than anybody else, or Blair himself, or Lieberman, I can take any of them. We had Stalin as ally in the WWII for Gods sake...
I don't have to forget that one was (is?) ACLU lawyer, or another was pink as almost red. But in the war against Jihadists, they are valuable allies that might convince somebody where a 100% gold conservative might not... I see no shame of using them for the good cause.

I'm amazed he's still backing the War. Virtually every other Democrat is against it before they are for it.
-------------------------------------------------
I am not certain that his support for Israel is not the most important factor in his position. I live and work in what is probably one of the most Jewish communities in the world outside Israel. It is decidedly up-scale. The tone in town is ush sucks except for the war which is also good for Israel.

I absolutely BELIEVE "God Bless the USA"...perhaps Lieberman does as well; therefore, he stood up & spoke the Truth Loudly (True, he's no Zell Miller, but then who except Zell is?).
I also absolutely BELIVE God sends His Love on the "Wings of a Snow White Dove", too...but if a phrase fits Murtha should "wear" it. I keep wondering what Murtha absolutely BELIEVES...it cannot be:
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We will fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines

In deed he did nail it.
The argument should no longer be how we got there, rather it should be about how we secure a lasting victory for the betterment of Iraq, the US, and the Middle East in general.
I dare say that anyone who doesn't understand this point doesn't understand the importance of Iraq in the WOT.....

How Israel goes, so goes the west eventually...
IMHO, Israel is the bell weather of Wests the future....they are only closer to the fight than we are right now....

I can go one step further and say that many or maybe most of the Iraq war critics don't understand a danger of the Jihadism as well. They see the whole "War on Terror" (not adequate terminology in my view, but oh well) as a pretense for the power grub by Bush and his evil companions (or evil ____fill the blanks___ who manipulate Bush).

Joe Lieberman apparently stands alone as the only principled high profile DIM on this issue. It's too bad that instead of being rewarded for this correct, sober, rational, principled, visionary, and statesmanlike stance he will likely be punished by his own party.

Today's Demonrats make one nostalgic for the days when Democrats really were an Honorable Opponent, with whom you might disagree about almost everything under the sun, but who also demonstrated some integrity, or at least propriety. Those days quickly faded when BJ Clinton became their "Guiding Light", and Joe Lieberman is evidently the last vestige of that kind of Democrat in the US Congress. The rest of 'em have zero integrity or propriety.
