Bush Outlines Border Security Plan
Monday, November 28, 2005
CRAWFORD, Texas Trying to unify a fractious Republican Party headed to midterm elections with wide differences over how to best deal with illegal immigration, President Bush was in Tucson, Ariz., on Monday to say America shouldn't have to choose between a welcoming society and a lawful one.
"Securing our border is essential to securing our homeland. And I want to thank all of those who are working around the clock to defend our border, to enforce our laws and to uphold the values of the United States of America. America is grateful to those on the front lines enforcing the border," Bush said at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in the first of two speeches on border control.

How many YEARS would such a wall take?
There are fences going up and more planned.
A wall doesn't do the job? Lets see, if you make it high enough, it sure as heck makes the job a whole lot tougher than the way it is now.
Curious that folks really don't want to try something that may work.
Good luck revoking the 14th Amendment there.
Bush has no idea how much he is damaging his reputation, his presidency, and his place in history by his grossly negligent head in the sand inaction regarding securing the border. His current proposal, comes under the heading of too little, too late. In fact, the initiative is pathetic. 1000 more border folks? Give me a break. Just last year, Bush cut back the increase to what was it, 200 or something?
What is obvious is that illegal immigration costs more in taxes to support the education and medical expenses of illegals (and their children) than it saves US citizens in lower food prices. Ending illegal immigration would be a net benefit to America, as well as a way to increase our security (both from potential terrorist attack and the criminal activity of Mexican [and other] citizens who work here). As an added benefit it would give us an incentive to reduce welfare benefits to encourage Americans to work. I say that as a person who has done manual labor on the family farm as recently as 4 years ago. Further, the benefits of such a policy also accrue to Mexicans. Mexico needs to implement policies which will employ their own citizens in Mexico - i.e. significantly reduce socialism and corruption [but I repeat myself].
Hi there (although I never said anything about $6 lettuce).
Wasn't there a story posted yesterday about a construction company screwing the taxpayers by paying one employee a 6 figure salary that was really spread among about a dozen workers. It was a simple case of tax evasion all around.
Anything short of a 30 foot high fence along both sides of our borders is just smoke and mirrors. Nothing new here.
How many years would a wall take? Depends on how serious you are about solving the problem.
My analysis shows it could be done in a couple of years.
Remember that we have a LOT of experience with big engineering and construction jobs.
So you prefer Kerry as President.
no, but it's just a step away from it.
It's a lie that's been debunked countless times. Doesn't stop the FROBL from repeating it, though.
Let's do a little math. For the sake of argument, let's assume there are about 12 million illegals here. $3.7 billion would work out to just over $300 per immigrant. We could do it for less. Offer a bounty of $100 each. I could buy a new car just for turning in the landscapers, bus boys and dishwashers in my neighborhood. We could do it even cheaper if we impose fines on the employer to cover the bounty and pay for the trip home.
We have thousands of school buses that sit virtually idle in the summer. We could organize a shuttle system to take them south. We could put New Orleans' Mayor Nagin in charge. Okay, maybe not.
Pathetic
So, what would you propose doing to the parents of a 1-month old UNITED STATES CITIZEN then?
Would you have a problem amending the 14th to say clearly that Citizenship only applies to those children born here of LEGAL immigrants?
