"For many people, Internet Explorer is just not broken," Geoff Johnston, an analyst with research firm WebSideStory, said in a press release.

And many people continue to vote democrat.

sitting in the background all of the time eating up memory

Well its selectable behaviour, so you don't have to have it. But I gotta point out that memory is DIRT cheap these days, and it does nothing sitting in the tray.

As for UI, the current UI and Mozilla are identical in that respect. Have you actually TRIED Mozilla?

What mail program do you use with mozilla?

Why Mozilla mail of course.

You DO Understand, Don't you, that Mozilla is a cleaned up netscape that runs faster, crashes less, and is up-to-date with industry standard rendering? Its not like you are moving to another planet or something. It just gets maintained better than netscape.

I recently switched to an alternate desktop shell called Emerge. It rocks.

I many years ago switched to the alternate reality of Linux. I mostly work in KDE.

A whole raft of screen shots here.

Oh man.. don't get me started on that trainwreck of a company.

Yeah, their prices pretty much suck too. In fact, the only thing they got going for them is Sabine...

Once you go Opera, you never go back.

I love the "notes" function. I use "notes" for posts that need to be repeated periodically.

The Bookmark find bar is great. I no longer organize by bookmarks by folders: I simply give them a name that I would most likely search for.

Mail and contacts are a piece of cake.

Deleting cookies on exit makes browsing much more secure.

The links function saves so much time when you're searching for a link on a thread.

And the hot keys make FReeping a pure pleasure.

Thanks, its good to know that those threads are useful as I have had certain people bark that there is no point to them. I was also wondering about 2000, I put it up on XP and, like you, had no troubles so I was considering my other windows desktop.

I've got Opera and Firefox. Just for kicks, I loaded in the same thread and approximated the time to load in each browser.

Firefox was first. It took just about two seconds to load the thread completely.

Opera took less than half that. FWIW

"Well its selectable behaviour, so you don't have to have it. But I gotta point out that memory is DIRT cheap these days, and it does nothing sitting in the tray"

It can add up when you let everything that wants to sit in your tray (You should see the unusable mess that my uncle's computer has become). Half of the programs on my computer would be doing it if I let them. It's not so bad on my desktop, but my laptop only has 256 MB.

"As for UI, the current UI and Mozilla are identical in that respect. Have you actually TRIED Mozilla?"

Yes, I have. They're similar, but not identical (have you seen the netscape 8.0 UI yet?). For example, Netscape puts an 'x' on each tab, letting you close it easily even if it's not on top, which Mozilla doesn't have.

I had one spontaneous reboot happen...never happened on that box before Emerge....but it hasn't happened again...yet.

Also, there is a utility I use in XP called MiniMIZE that doesn't work in Win2k. Other than that it's all good.

Oh...BTW...those threads are useful.

Just because some here are sooo jaded that they think they've seen it all and love to tell the world about it doesn't mean jack.

Keep on keepin' on I say. It adds flavor to FR. I read them and get new tidbits all the time. Emergre being just one.

I just ran that link in Safari. No go. It has a big red block and other problems. (I run OSX 10.3?)

Did you know you can run MacOS X within Windows? The Peak OS lets you do exactly that. It can be somewhat slow though, since USB is still not fully supported. It tricks OS X into thinking its running on a Mac Power PC processor. Go figure.

In fact you are right -- Safari failed the test for one of its releases (yours, apparently).

10.4.3 fixed it again!

"For many people, Internet Explorer is just not broken,"

Which is only another way of saying they haven't tried a different browser. I don't know how anyone could go back to IE after experiencing at the very least significantly reduced pop ups.
