Leakgate accuser Joe Wilson hinted at the prospect of impeachment Monday morning while discussing the "betrayal of national security" entailed by the outing of his CIA employee-wife, saying that he hoped the case wouldn't result in "a constitutional crisis."
Asked if he thought the leaking of his wife's name by Cheney chief of staff Lewis Libby was sanctioned by White House higher-ups, Wilson told WABC Radio's "Curtis & Kuby":
"It is clear that Mr. Libby and Mr. Rove were acting - but whether they were acting independently or not is something for [Leakgate prosecutor Patrick] Fitzgerald to determine."
Wilson then explained: "It does strike me that, normally in an organization, the chief of staff does not act completely separate from his principal."
Adopting a tone of mock regret, the aggrieved ex-diplomat declared: "Now I would hope, of course, that this tawdry political act of illegality and betrayal of national security does not become a constitutional crisis."
Asked what actual damage his wife had suffered since she was not undercover at the time of her outing, Wilson declined to respond directly, saying only:
"[Bush officials] decided that they were going to use the enormous power of the White House communications office to try to destroy us. I have had no choice but to defend myself."
I know that this is soooo dated but "gag me with a spoon."
> Does this man work for a living, or does he just live off his wife?
"Yeah, baby!" At least that's what I keep expecting him to shout.
"Recently"? I guess if "recently" means "during the past eight years".
AFP.... LMAO!!!
The reporter for Time magazine who recently agreed to testify in the CIA leak case is central to White House senior adviser Karl Rove's effort to fend off an indictment in the two-year-old investigation, according to two people familiar with the situation.
Viveca Novak, who has written intermittently about the leak case for Time, has been asked to provide sworn testimony to Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald in the next few weeks after Rove attorney Robert Luskin told Fitzgerald about a conversation he had with her, the two sources
It's not clear why Luskin believes Novak's deposition could help Rove, President Bush's deputy chief of staff, who remains under investigation into whether he provided false statements in the case. But a person familiar with the matter said Luskin cited his conversations with Novak in persuading Fitzgerald not to indict Rove in late October, when the prosecutor brought perjury and obstruction-of-justice charges against Vice President Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
Convicted for what? Where is the impeachable offense? Come on...Fitzy can't even get an indictment for the (non)crime that was alleged and you think the dingbat dems can get articles of impeachment through the congress?
Mark
No, he had a job, working for the Kerrey/Edwards presidential campaign.
Mark
He already has; long ago.
You ought prepare yourself for the worst case scenario...
This investigation is not going away. Fitzgerald is convening a second grand jury...
Impeachment with a majority of Republicans is unlikely...but this story will get deeper, broader and more intense...
Don't be an ostrich...
Sorry, I was laughing to hard from the headline to read the article. When Joe Wilson hints, he uses a bull horn. LOL!! :-)
Plame wasn't covert so...no harm, no foul. The only damage suffered by the CIA was embarrassment over hiring that silly little twit in the first place.
bttt
Yes, it is vague. But the article clearly states that Wilson's wife was at the conference and omits any reference to Kristof's wife being there. I also lean on the fact that Wilson is the subject of the sentence, thus the "his" should relate to him.
If nothing else, Fitz should clear this up. (Funny how the author failed to recognize the significance of this passage, huh?)
I didn't realize that. So a good investigative journalist needs to do a good search into Joe's life? Maybe Seymour Hirsch? /sarcasm
If I were her boss, she'd be "de-briefed" and run out of town.....which seems to be the case.
I'll bet they have a pre-marital agreement. I'm also thinking that perhaps Jacqueline and Valerie were close friends at one time.
No ostrich here- this investigation has been lame from the start. Fitzgerald has a lot of 'splainin to do over his goofy conclusions with the first grand jury.
The ones who should be watching out are Colin Powell and the aholes at State and the CIA.
Remember, this started as a mechanism to get Karl Rove. I think it is the members of the press that are more likely to get indicted this time around. Woodward sitting on information like he did is just the tip of the iceberg.
Poor Joe....He didn't know Valerie's name was in the "Classified" files. That's what we call a royal scr**up"
His own book will bring him down as he flaps his lips in the wind.
