There were stories even in the 50's and 60's about the madness at Macy's Bargain Basement sales.

People do things in crowds that they would never do alone. A mob mentality takes over. Auctioneers know how to play upon a crowd's emotions to get top dollar for junk.

Oh, yeah, that just brought to mind the bride dress sales at Filene's or wherever. Those bridal gown sales are classic violence fests.

Read in Time Magazine about the 72 year old women collecting cans because corporate America is cutting back on promised benefits. It's getting scarey out there.

I think you're right. Highway driving is one of the more subtle examples...

I doubt that their memories were so disassociated with reality such that they pined for the experience.

Sure, why not? He'll get enough folks to believe him that it'll make things worth his while. Or, there's a link on Drudge that says "Climate change 'as bad as WMD'..." They might still be on that nonsense.

The theory is that you set off an EMP over the east coast, it will knock the area out. This, coupled with the interdependence of the country's grid, will wipe out the electrical capacity over the rest of the country.

This would be more effective and devastating than direct drops of nuclear bombs.

Always have basic supplies on hand. You never know...

Filenes in Boston used to have "Filene's Basement", (later turned into a chain) where all the stores would send
their junk and non-sellers. I was told that they restocked on Saturday morning, and it was an absolute madhouse.

The worst day of the year was when they put out the marked down wedding dresses.

Highway driving is one of the more subtle examples...

In Cheyenne a few years ago a man filled with road rage actually shot and killed a father in front of his own kids. The murderer's still out there somewhere AFAIK.

I don't recall the details. But, under Clinton, the IRS officially recognized them as a church.

Maybe it was questionable up until then.

Ever been over to The Brattle Book Store? They sell used and antiquarian books. Whenever they have a 50% off sale its the same damned thing. Madness. The irony for me is civilized book nerds in search of knowledge acting like barbarians.

Book nerd riots are really something to behold.
