Texas Woman Mauled to Death by Six Dogs

THORNDALE, Texas
A pack of six dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death as she worked in her yard, authorities said.
Lillian Loraine Stiles was riding on a lawn mower in her front yard Saturday when she was confronted by the dogs, described as pit bull- rottweiler mixed breeds, said Milam County Sheriff Charlie West.
Investigators think Stiles was attacked when she got off the mower and headed into her house.
Stiles had severe bites over her entire body, and a man who tried to help her was bitten on one leg, authorities said.
The dogs were found at the home of Stiles' neighbor, Jose Hernandez.
The sheriff's department will send the findings of its investigation to the Milam County District Attorney's Office, which will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against Hernandez.
Thorndale is located about 70 miles west of College Station.

Very few guns are stolen from their owners, none of them wander off or break though the fence and go to the neighbors house to attack old ladies on lawn mowers.
Amen. I live in a rural area in AZ and routinely walk five miles round trip to the Post Office just for the exercise.
I stopped walking down one street because a homeowner there had a Rotweiler, unleashed, on his porch who always barked his head off, but at least didn't leave the porch and shut up after I passed.
I always pack a firearm, usually a 25 auto. Yeah, I know, a mousegun, but it conceals nicely and I can put it in my outside mailbox when I enter the Post Office. I have it loaded with those shotshell-looking "bullets" and nearly used them yesterday when that damned Rotweiler was on another street and acting bad - barking, snarling and looking like he was going to go for it. I carry a heavy walking stick and flourished that as well as talking in a steady low tone, all the while keeping my other hand near the pistol, but nothing happened - this time.
A "pet" like that who comes after me is just a three-pound trigger pull away from eternity.

Dogs have their own will and nature.
How is that head injury healing?
If you're serious about defending yourself with a pistol, throw the silly shotshells away. If your life is in danger, you need real bullets...

One of the few times the denizens of SF did something right was when they prosecuted the two lawyers who owned the dogs that killed a woman. The basis for that prosecution was that the defendants knew or should have known the dogs' vicious tendencies. I suspect it will be fairly easy to prove Mr. Hernandez well knew the vicious tendencies of his dog pack. If so, he could go away for a long and justified time.
I'm with you. Dogs running loose together are a recipe for trouble. I know since I had to put one down a few years ago while hunting. I was sitting in my deer blind here in the hill country and as noon approached I decided it was time to take a break and head back to camp for lunch. As I stepped out of the blind I saw 2 LARGE mixed breeds without collars about 30 feet from me. I slowly backed away while watching them when one let out a loud growl and started running towards me followed by the other. Needless to say I aimed quickly and put a 30-30 bullet into his jaw...was aiming at his head. The other dog turned tail when this happened then I finished off the attacker. Moral of the story.....shoot'em if they make one step towards you when in a pack.
I disagree. The FIRST shot could well be such--sometimes you "do" run into real snakes and the like, and a single shotshell "might" deter a dog attack successfully. All the rest of the rounds, though should be the most lethal ammo you can load in it.
All dogs are potentially viscious.
The vast majority of dogs of every breed go through their lives without being viscious.
A responsible owner of any breed must take care to be aware of any circumstances that might lead to agressive behavior.
Any dog bite is a serious matter.
A small dog is quite capable of causing a disfiguring or nerve-damaging injury.
Medium and large dog owners have even more responsiblity.
Their dogs can potentially inflict larger injuries.
The dogs of this article have acted in a viscious matter and it's obvious they need to be put down.
To call for a breed ban based on this article is not justified.
You'll notice the article states they are described as a "pit-bull rottweiler mixed breeds".
To me that sounds close to a 'We don't know what the heck they are' description.
Again hardly enough on which to base a call for a breed ban.
Let's go after the criminals.
(Letting your dogs run loose should be consider criminal behavior).

Yep, that's what they all say.
And such people get an education when for whatever reason the Rottweiler decides it does not like someone.
These dogs are potential killers.
Why do idiots always have to learn that we are right and they are wrong at the expense of mutilation or death of one or more innocent persons.

The dogs get loose.
A bit like keeping a bear or tiger in your back yard.
The dogs are strong, resourceful, and motivated to get loose.
The fools which own them are a danger to their neighbors.
It is common knowledge that certain breeds of dogs tend more
toward agressiveness than others. If they are large and
possess powerful undershot jaws the danger is increased.
I adopted a bull terrier, she was the sweetest, cutest thing you have ever seen...at least to me and my kids. Tail wagging, kisses, and all that. She even got along with the other dogs and cats.
Wonderful!
Then one day, she tore apart my daughter's cat. This was not just a kill, my cat was shredded into little pieces.
After that gruesome episode, I was watching her like a hawk. I am now convinced that she would have worked her way up to my dachshund, perhaps my Shepherds (perhaps), and possibly my children.
I don't care about getting flamed, pit-bull lovers, so go right ahead. If I didn't have an alternative place for that killer dog I would have shot it dead in a minute.
These dogs are killers...they're just looking for the right opportunity to kill something.
Don't bother posting some sweet story of your pit-bull as a rebuttal.
I hope Mr Hernandez gets what's coming to him.
This kind of sh!t has got to stop.
