For the past month, there has been heavy advertising for a made-for-tv movie on SAT1 Television called "Die Luftbruecke" (this means "The Airlift").
I was skeptical that it would be pro-American.
However, I can't believe me eyes: the movie that everyone in Germany is watching tonight...accurately portrays the Americans as doing everything they can to save Berlin from Stalin, and the film is showing many American heroes dying as their planes crash from the chaos.
German children are waving and cheering as the American pilots fly overhead...and German women are saying yes to marriage proposals from Americans.
Am I in Germany in 2005?
The film has only German actors. A famous German actor plays the American general whom the female lead falls in love with although she is still not over the death of her husband who died at the beginning of the movie defending Berlin against the Red Army.
Wow. Hope it goes over well. That'd be a welcome bit of good news from Germany.
I sure wish there was a Bit Torrent of the movie. I'de like to see it.
Any chance it will be seen in the US?
With a new Chancellor, maybe the whole country will rethink their relationship with the US and start anew.
bump
Angela Merkel already making an impact.
Only if it contains lots of sex jokes. I'm watching football this afternoon, and literally the majority of promo spots for other Fox and CBS shows contain some type of sex reference.
Probably. 'Das Boot' was a big hit here, even captioned. I'd love to see this new one.
I bet Merkel is loving it!
Should be sobering for the Hate America (at any and all times) crowd in Germany...hope it sinks in.
I do too, but that's some powerful kool-aid they've been drinking over there.
Interesting post -- thanks for the information.
Can't wait to hear what the left has to say about it.
LOL! just posting to say your tagline is toooo funny!

(steely)
The film is too conservative for the American left to allow it to be shown in the USA. Actually, southern Germany is Bush country. This kind of pro-Americanism is more common in southern Germany than in the American blue states.
That said, I am now in northern Germany. This is on national television.
The end of part 1 has probably arrived. The new husband of the female lead's best friend has probably just bought the farm as his plane crash landed. The music is like that from Jurassic Park and so are the special effects. This is a major film. It would easily make it as a blockbuster Sunday and Monday night mini-series in the USA...if it weren't so pro-American.
I just see it as a numbers game... Your bound to have a decent apple in every bad bunch...
