They have been donating a tree for 34 years in remenbrance of an event that occurred in 1917? It appears that they have some catching up to do.

Holiday Tree
That is so dumb.
The etymology [history] of 'holiday' is:
[Middle English
holidai,
holy day, from Old English
h
lig dæg :
h
lig,
holy; see
holy +
dæg,
day; see
day.]
The word 'holiday' is as steeped in religious tradition as 'Christmas' is. Next, they will try to ban 'holiday' and call it 'celebration day' or some similar nonsense.

This year the tree was renamed by City officials to the "Holiday Tree."

I don't understand why some fear Christmas so much.
They should be fearing Christ's second coming!

A christmas tree is forbidden but a Jewish menorah or star is allowed.
We need to declare Thanksgiving to new years to be a PC free "safe zone".

Today, the Mayor and the Parks Commissioner responded and now concede the tree will be called a Christmas tree. My, what people of strength and conviction. Why didn't they fight on principle? How come?

Well, this is a minor victory. Sad thing is we'll have to fight this all over again come next year until finally we're too old, too few in number to make sufficient fuss.

"When the Nova Scotia donor learned that the tree was renamed, he was "hopping mad," and stated that he should have "put it in the chipper."
Once Boston somehow manages to put itself in a position to be rightly criticized by one of us from the current land of gay 'marriage', its citizens should properly be afraid ... very afraid.

What gets me is they are trashing centuries old traditions and then call US the agressors. As if WE'RE the ones trying to change the country. It's just so dishonest.

Have friends that are Jewish. Didn't understand their holidays so I asked them to teach me about them. I have respect for the beliefs of others and expect the same in return. They don't say Happy Holiday to me. They say Merry Christmas because is what I believe in.
It is not Happy Holidays. It isn't X-mas either. It's CHRISTMAS. A time to worship. A time for family. A time for giving.

I am so sick of hearing all this liberal BS I could scream.
My other 'sick of hearing' is all the come here's constantly complaining that they want the ethnic life style they had in the old country.
They come here because of freedoms and immediately want to change everything to suit their ethnic life style. If they don't like it here as it is, they need to go back where they came from. We don't want to live the Hispanic, Oriental or Muslim life style, that is why we are still here in the good old USA.

But Donnie Hatt, of Beech Hill,Nova Scotia, says he wouldn't have sent his 36-year-old white spruce to Boston this year if he knew it would be called a "holiday" tree. In fact, he'd rather see it run through the wood chipper in his backyard.
"I think it's a bunch of bullcrap," Hatt said Tuesday. "The States is never happy with the way things are. They always gotta change something.
"Ever since I was born, a tree was put up for Christmas, not for holidays, because if you're gonna do that you might as well put a tree up for Easter."

The local NBC channel performed a poll two days ago, which they have since taken down. Final vote was over 94% wanted it to remaina "Christmas Tree". Somehow no one listens to the people of Mass.

To deny the Christian aspect of the Christmas tree is also to deny the historical aspect - the evergreen was adopted to replace the pagan symbol that was the oak tree, in order to symbolize the eternity, the 'evergreen' of God.

Today, the Mayor and the Parks Commissioner responded and now concede the tree will be called a Christmas tree.Seems so silly to try to call it a 'Holiday tree'. After all, what other religion has a decorated tree in its decorations? Jews have their Menorahs, folks who celebrate Kwanzaa have their Unity candles, but no other group except Christians honoring the birth of Christ with their Christmas celebrations use a tree in their decorations, so why call it anything else?
