Holiday Tree
That is so dumb.
The etymology [history] of 'holiday' is:
[Middle English
holidai,
holy day, from Old English
h
lig dæg :
h
lig,
holy; see
holy +
dæg,
day; see
day.]
The word 'holiday' is as steeped in religious tradition as 'Christmas' is. Next, they will try to ban 'holiday' and call it 'celebration day' or some similar nonsense.

I know -- everyone knows that it's really a "wishing tree." :)

I don't understand why the merchants would be onboard this movement. Santa Claus is of Christian derivation. It is not Hindu, Moslem, or Jewish (although it has been quasie adopted by Jews and tied to their own holiday.) Take away the underlying holy-day reason for the season celebrated by the majority of the population and the gift going goes with it. Why would they want to insult the majority of their customers at the biggest sales time of year?

HAPPY HOLY DAYS!
MERRY CHRIST MASS!
A BLESSED FESTIVAL OF
THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD! (Albeit a little early--Advent starts this Sunday.)

Next, they will try to ban 'holiday' No! No! No! If the word "holiday" were extracted from the English language, the media and department stores would be rendered speechless when it comes to describing anything associated with Christmas. They want to avoid saying or writing "Christmas" with every ounce of their being. My God, man, have you no mercy?
