51st Statehood in the Union for Taiwan?
Nov. 25, 2005 | State-of-Taiwan

Posted on 11/25/2005 12:02:40 AM PST by State-of-Taiwan

David Chou, an American-educated Taiwanese, together with some pro-U.S. Formosan compatriots, raised the standard of the Formosan Statehood in 1994. The Movement advocates Taiwan's step-by-step integration into, and, political affiliation with, the United States, leading to full membership in the Union as the final solution to the Taiwan problem. Inspired by Commodore C. Perry, David Chou has long believed that his Statehood Plan best serves the interests of the Formosan people and those of the United States as well. He strives for reviving the dream of the "American Pacific Empire," envisioned by Commodore Perry. I welcome you all to the web site of the Movement, http://home.kimo.com.tw/fsmdavid/index.htm. I also take this opportunity to say thanks to Publius and Mr. Paul Denton, among others, for their postings on the issue of Formosan statehood. Happy Thanksgiving!

I can see the Democrats getting Puerto Rico and the Republicans getting Taiwan. Who says the American Imperium is dead?

What a brilliant idea. And it would have the added benefit of driving the Chinese completely insane.

An intriguing idea, to be sure, but I doubt it would ever come to fruition.

Taiwan? No way, that would start a world war for no reason.

Well, I suppose we can always hope, hmm? =)

As an aside, it'd be funny to see how mad the Chinese would get.

A Chinese military challenge against the U.S.? I don't think so.

When Portugal went socialist in 1977, that was the big joke in the Azores. They wanted to become part of the United States.

If it came about, Hong Kong would be the 52nd.

Interesting idea. My only question is how long will the war with China last? And how bloody will it be? Because dearest advocates of the latest version of the Imperium Americana, China WILL GO TO WAR to prevent this.

The Chinese might be driven mad. But, what can they do? Bomb America? That's suicidal, isn't that?
