You do have a point, however. I should ratchet it down a bit. I just get really annoyed when people post messages that children (actual children...under the age of 18) should be accorded the same rights and responsibilities as an over-18 adult. These days, especially with the way things are going, that sort of thing all but guarantees child exploitation. And yeah, it gets me incredibly short-fused.

How does your idea of a 14-year-old working as a porn star pertain to the story of a young couple working hard all their lives and being happy together for 70 years (hopefully more)? Oh, yes. It doesn't.

There are already 14-15 year olds working both legally and illegally. Altering a working age to 14 would not have any bearing on the legal restrictions imposed on adult-oriented businesses. That age is still 18/21 for the most-part.

The previous post simply stated that a 14-year-old should be able to work if they so desire. Obviously there will be parental/guardian issues to address. That goes without saying.

I didn't add the red herring. I just baited it further (rather successfully, I might add).

I see what you're saying . . . but in most states people can work at 16, but the porn industry still requires 18 (or is it 21?) . . . so what does the age of being able to work have to do with it?

In this stupid age when we call 19-year-olds "children." Back then...they had to be ready to cope with life.

It's because our kids have been raised without all the responsibilities our parents and grandparents had when they were teenagers. Even we didn't have those kinds of responsibilities when we were younger. The Depression and World War II were defining moments in the lives of our grandparents and parents, and they were forced to grow up fast.

There is no comparison between the maturity of a 19 yr old from 1920 and one today.

I don't see why having 14 year olds marry and work would necessarily lead to them working in the porn industry. Why there rather than somewhere else? I don't understand your reasoning.

There are already 14 and 15 year olds having children without the benefit of marriage, and some teenagers would be more productive if they were working for a living than they are at school.
